The shelter is closed on Mondays, but did you know on days the shelter is open you can borrow a dog for an adventure?

It's called Doggy Day Out! We'll send you with all the essentials from a leash and harness to a water bowl and seatbelt! (Seriously we have doggy seatbelts!! 🚗)

All we need is to schedule a pick up time, some information about what your plans are for your adventures and the rest is up to you! Teagan is a doggy day out pro and she's willing to show you the ropes along with her other friends here at the humane society.

Check out Gigi. I will be honest, I was a little nervous about this one. She is a very very severe case. She has never ever walked on a leash a day in her life. Sometimes these can be very hard to fix especially in just one session. As soon as the leash goes around her neck it triggers her to FREAK all the way out. That can be a psychological issue that can take a lot of time to overcome. This video doesn’t even begin to show how serious the problem was but I try to focus on the success and not the failure. The technique I used once before for this situation did not work on her at all. In fact, it made it worse. So I had to rethink on the fly. This session only lasted 30 minutes and Gigi succeeded!

Got to meet Charlie today. Charlie is getting a little too big for her britches. She has a little fear aggression and just has a lot of anxiety. This seems to be a common issue with Labradoodles. However, just getting her owner into a leadership role will make Charlie’s life so much better. Right now she feels like she has to worry about everything because she has learned to make decisions for herself. She even tried to be the boss with me but quickly realized that we don’t do that. This is just an evaluation but he couldn’t even see her gravitating toward the little bit of consistency I showed her.

Nothing should bother a good protection dog. They should be desensitized to everything. They should run toward an issue, not away from it.
