Meet the Metazotics Team! Week 5!

Meet Wendy! (AKA Wendy Lou, AKA Wendall, AKA Boo, AKA Rodent Lady)

Wendy is married to Clint (I know, I know, lucky gal... if you laughed too hard at that we can't be friends) and truthfully, she is who runs the show 🤷‍♂️As far as how long she has worked at Metazotics... she says if cleaning the rodent cages that feed the collection owned by Metazotics counts, she's worked here around 12 years 😅 As one of the owners of Metazotics, Wendy certainly isn't a "this is all I do" or "that isn't my job" individual. Those gorgeous Metameal salads... Wendy buys and preps all the veggies and fruits that goes in to them as well as ensures that there is always a variety of salads available. She also works the cricket shipments, handles plant care, customer assistance, animal care organization, and several administrative responsibilities. The biggest contribution from Wendy each and every week is she cleans all of the rodent cages and is responsible for rodent production. She keeps our and your animals fed!

Wendy's favorite TV show is Yellowstone and her favorite musician is Eric Church. Trust me on this, if she has a glass of wine in her hand and she puts Eric on, things are about to get loud 😅 Wendy loves to hunt, fish, and do any type of work outside. When asked if she had any idols in the hobby she said "The Drury Brothers. Oh wait, I thought we were talking about hunting!" lol She doesn't really consider herself "in" the hobby, but she has helped and supported me (Clint) for the last 12 years in a whatever crazy reptile idea I had. And I mean... she cleans the rodents... how awesome is that!? Wendy's favorite reptile is the bearded dragon. It was her first and is certainly her passion here at the shop. Her favorite part about working at Metazotics is working with the beardies, but says the worst part is having to clean beardie p**p 😂

In ten years, Wendy hopes to be spending most of her time on the property we own in Pike county, where she will be gardening, harvesting, hunting, and fishing. I think that sounds like an EXCELLENT plan. Not sure if we will be able to spare her from the store by then though... she does too much! Wendy runs all of the errands for the store and the family, keeps everything in order and on time, and quite frankly keeps things moving in the direction that it should. Thank you so much for all of the early mornings and late nights, the 12 plus hour days, all of the hard work you do each and every day, and somehow still making sure I eat lunch. Love you boo!

📢Hey folks, we are asking for a participation post here! We need your help! Please like, comment on, and share this post so we can get as many eyes on it as possible 😊

Each episode, we ask if you have show ideas, to please share them with us. This post would be a great place to do that. Here's what we are after:

💥A particular guest we should have on
💥A specific species we should highlight
💥A hobby topic to deep dive into

Hobby deep dives can be large topics such as brumation or stubborn feeder techniques that would be entire episodes, or they can be smaller topics that can be combined into a single episode such as identifying healthy/sick animals at a show or how to keep water spots off of terrarium glass.

Thank you in advance!

Fact

It do be like that...

Truth is, we are going to help you regardless of where your animal came from. It's who we are! Although our hearts also bleed for the animals being improperly cared for at some larger pet stores, please know this: By purchasing one, you are perpetuating the improper care of many more by the same companies... it is sad but it is the reality.

Metazotics discusses the important things in the hobby.

Truth.
09/03/2023

Truth.

When people hear that you like/enjoy/are into reptiles, specifically snakes, why do so many feel the need to tell you about the time they killed a snake? Or that the only good snake is a dead snake? Why is this acceptable etiquette?

Killing anything because you don't like it is callous.

Killing anything because you don't know what it is or are not educated on it is ignorance.

The easiest way to tell if a snake is dangerous is to ask yourself one question. "Am I messing with it?" If you can answer no to that question, the answer will be "no, it isn't dangerous" 👏every👏single👏time!

Did you know we offer reptile boarding? This pretty little girl was trying to figure out if I was an ok guy or not while her daddy filled out some paperwork. He and the family get to enjoy some camping this holiday weekend without worrying about this sweetheart. She will be under the care of us here at Metazotics!

How does it work? I'm so glad you asked. A small fee of $5/day plus food with any remaining food being sent home upon pick up. If it is a lizard species, we only ask you bring your heat and uvb lights/fixtures. It is just that simple!

Hey all! Clint here. I had to take a moment and post this because it has hit me right in the feels.

It is no secret that I have wanted to open a reptile specialty store since I was six years old. However, it was more than just the animals, the business, the shop that I envisioned and dreamed of creating. I wanted to create a place where people who love this hobby could come, spend time, enjoy animals, build community, and just BE. I wanted a place where people spent time not because they needed a product or service but because they just WANTED to.

As I looked over today and watched a group of our regulars (dare I say our friends) who had never met, sitting, talking, and enjoying our animals... I can't help but feel like we have done something right.

I love what I do, and I am so grateful for the support you all continue to give. Thank you for making my dream come true.
