I always tell new puppy parents to allow their puppy to sniff.. it acquaints the puppy with it's new surroundings but also helps the puppy get acquainted with the leash.

You think " Oh my gosh, that puppy is tiny!" BUT, if your puppy is 8 weeks old or older, you can and SHOULD be training him! Simple commands like having the puppy follow food around while you hold it in front of them, tossing food in the crate and making a game of going in and out of it and having the puppy chase a toy that's tossed from one person to the other ( think down a hallway ). These all teach the puppy to pay attention to you, to go in his crate and to learn his name. Start training as soon as you get your puppy! Even better, hire me to do the training!

Where it all started… back on July 22 I received 7 plump little puppies and now 17 weeks later I can say each one will be in his/her own home after this weekend!! Enjoy this cute video!

How much daily exercise does your puppy need? It depends on the age and breed! Other than walks, what can you do? Play tug, throw a toy, practice training, play hide and seek or invite a friend’s dog over for play. I can help with the training! Message me!

Leash training. Start with a flat buckle type collar and make sure it’s placed up high on the neck, right behind the ears. Next add a nylon or leather 6’ leash. For young puppies, initially let them drag the leash around, then start training “ loose leash” walking. Contact me about the stages of leash training!

If your puppy is running around and panting pretty hard, and you don’t have a puppy pool like this cutie, take out a deep cookie sheet or large plastic desert container ( I’m talking 2” deep )and put cool water in it along with some ice cubes for their entertainment ( puppies love to nose them around in the water and eat them! ) and cool them off! They cool off most quickly through their feet😊

Your puppy is running around the yard and you want him to come inside, but he won’t come when called. You need to learn “ recall”. First thing to do is NEVER run after him! Instead entice him with a sweet voice of “ Inside!” or squeak his favorite toy. Set your puppy up to choose to come to you! When he does, reward him with a “ Good boy!” or food reward.
