Our amazing fearless leader has had to undergo another eye surgery and will need time to recover.

Due to these circumstances, we appreciate your understanding and patience as Best Friend Rodent Rescue will be on a temporary surrender/intake hiatus for the next few weeks.

But fear not, all other operations will continue. Our brave leader will be up on her feet again soon, along with our awesome volunteers and rat community partners who will be scurrying around to help and keep working behind the scenes.

Introducing...💗 The Woolentine’s Day Girls! 💗

These girls are being fostered in Seattle by one of our long-time volunteers and her family. These are some of the sweetest, most social girls they’ve ever met! They call them their “Woolies” and would love to keep them all if they could! 😂 These girls are about 9-10 months old and are all spayed. Due to their friendly, extremely outgoing natures, our fosters feel these girls are great first rats for a well-researched beginner adopter or the perfect affectionate rat for an experienced adopter.

These girls must go in pairs or trios - or octuplets if experienced and so inclined 😂 - our fosters certainly would love to! Adoption will take place in Seattle or could be organized at rescue HQ in Everett. When filling out the application, please indicate “Woolies” somewhere on the form. Once your application passes the first review, our foster will reach out to you with some more questions to make sure they are the right fit and complete the process.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going!

Recently life threw a proverbial curve ball straight to the eye of our amazing Owner and Founder!🦸🏼‍♀️
After dealing with an emergency surgery, reinforcements were a must and our awesome volunteers rallied to help her and the ratties. 🐀 🐁 🐀
It’s takes a village and here at Best Friend Rodent Rescue, our team members, seen or behind the scenes, all kick in to help.

How blessed we are to have each other in a world that is getting colder and more callous by the day; “Saving the world one rat at a time!!” 🐀 🐁 💚

As a rescue, we advocate for responsible adoption to ensure lifelong care and commitment. Pets should never be a present or an impulse buy. But, we also know that the holidays are a time when many families come together and commit to their decision to add a new family member into their home. Warning: The following images may be upsetting but we have decided to include them to show the reality of dumping rats outside.

An update on our beloved Scabbers, the rat found on the Kirkland bike path. While his tail is healing, he's going through a lot of ups and downs. Normally, we would not post photos like these because this level of neglect is upsetting, but it's important for us to continue to get the message out that domestic rats will die outside, unlike their wild cousins. Scabbers continues to breath very heavily despite antibiotics, oxygen, and nebulization treatment. His back still looks awful, patchy, and pardon the pun, awfully scabby. At times he is so fatigued he cannot clean his own face and has to have his buddy do it for him. Please continue to keep him in your thoughts as we do everything we can to give him a shot at the happy and safe life he deserves.

Meet Scabbers (affectionally dubbed by the amazing couple that saved him)……this sweetest, gentle boy came to us through the saddest of circumstances. Abandoned near a walking trail, he was desperate for help. Extremely thin, in respiratory distress, suffering from external parasites and so dirty, dehydrated and anemic, from only God and the other incidental friends and foes he encountered knows what. He has also endured a serious tail injury and has signs of a near predator escape.

We don’t know how he found himself in this super sad situation that seemed hopeless. However, he saw two wonderful, kind souls and he made his way to their feet begging for help and saving.

These amazing compassionate humans started helping him. Thank you Megan C. for waiting by his side on that trail, protecting him from the unknown and keeping a close eye on him for over 45 minutes while your husband went home and got something to transport him safely home in. They became the bridge to Best Friend Rodent Rescue, where he is now getting the meds, nursing care, warmth and the security he's always deserved. We don’t know what awful things he had to go through besides the obvious when he was found, but we hope he will pull through these hurdles and find his best golden moments and a second chance with us.
