We got you! For a $5 donation, you will get your own reading of Past, Present, and Future which will include a customized photo and the meaning of your cards. Every reading will enter you for a chance to win your own TaRat deck generously donated by Nakisha and the winner will be selected on November 1st. Readings are open to anyone world-wide. Entry into the deck raffle is US only due to shipping.

Warning: The following images may be upsetting but we have decided to include them to show the reality of dumping rats outside.

An update on our beloved Scabbers, the rat found on the Kirkland bike path. While his tail is healing, he's going through a lot of ups and downs. Normally, we would not post photos like these because this level of neglect is upsetting, but it's important for us to continue to get the message out that domestic rats will die outside, unlike their wild cousins. Scabbers continues to breath very heavily despite antibiotics, oxygen, and nebulization treatment. His back still looks awful, patchy, and pardon the pun, awfully scabby. At times he is so fatigued he cannot clean his own face and has to have his buddy do it for him. Please continue to keep him in your thoughts as we do everything we can to give him a shot at the happy and safe life he deserves.

Meet Scabbers (affectionally dubbed by the amazing couple that saved him)……this sweetest, gentle boy came to us through the saddest of circumstances. Abandoned near a walking trail, he was desperate for help. Extremely thin, in respiratory distress, suffering from external parasites and so dirty, dehydrated and anemic, from only God and the other incidental friends and foes he encountered knows what. He has also endured a serious tail injury and has signs of a near predator escape.

We don’t know how he found himself in this super sad situation that seemed hopeless. However, he saw two wonderful, kind souls and he made his way to their feet begging for help and saving.

These amazing compassionate humans started helping him. Thank you Megan C. for waiting by his side on that trail, protecting him from the unknown and keeping a close eye on him for over 45 minutes while your husband went home and got something to transport him safely home in. They became the bridge to Best Friend Rodent Rescue, where he is now getting the meds, nursing care, warmth and the security he's always deserved. We don’t know what awful things he had to go through besides the obvious when he was found, but we hope he will pull through these hurdles and find his best golden moments and a second chance with us.

Thankfully, we have made it through the nightmare of the SDA virus and to the other side. Just in time for this long-awaited event! We are so excited to be able to attend. We will be bringing a few rats for prearranged adoptions. We will not be doing spur of the moment adoptions at the show. Unfortunately, we've found that to be too chaotic and too stressful for us and all the beloved ratties involved. We are unable to guarantee that the rats will be going to live their best lives, if we adopt on the spot like this. We prefer to fully vett our potential adopters including, landlord, housing references, and checks etc. The excitement and craziness of the anticipated rat shows does not allow us time to do this. However, if you have adopted from us previously and we have already done that research, please feel free to reach out and see if we might have a good match for you. Especially those looking to add to their mischief or if you have ratties that have recently lost their cage mates, that need new buddies. We are dealing with something that every rat rescue fears happening to them. It appears that the Roseburg rats were sick with SDA virus when they came into our care. The rats at our foster's home are all sick, including her own, and so are numerous rats at our rescue. During a medical emergency last week, we brought a Roseburg rat to the rescue for a rescue dexamethasone shot. Days later, numerous rats went to the vet and everything looked clear. Against our better judgement, we decided to bring the healthiest three young girls to the rescue. Within days, one developed a throat lump.

Our mission is to help as many rats as possible. Quarantining perfectly isn't always possible. Over the years we've had to take in emergency hoarding cases, accommodate adopters with last minute travel, and other circumstances that forced us to make calculated decisions. Even when you have a dedicated quarantine room in your house with high quality filtration, it's simply not a guarantee. We're filling a very large need not just in the state of Washington, but also within Idaho, Oregon, and BC so we are very limited in what we can do. Having an additional facility put on the property is a tremendous expense and would take away from the resources that keep getting harder and harder to come by.

We felt it was critical to warn everyone that viruses are still circulating in our community and to please use caution, particularly when interacting with pets that may have been in pet stores, outdoors, or other places with uncertain hygiene practices. We have temporarily closed our doors as we try to help all our rats return to their previous health.

To our adopters who were expecting spay and neuter services this weekend and those who were looking forward to taking your new best friends home, we thank you for your patience.

Fruit Bat, AKA Fruity, one of our Roseburg ratties staying with our Seattle foster, is asking for your help! We need bedding! Lots and lots of bedding! With a rescue full of sanctuary rats 🐀🐀 and little babies 🐀🐀 and our Oregon ratties 🐀🐀 at our foster's home, we are going through Carefresh like crazy. 🥵 We are so grateful for your donations to help us cover all our vet care but with a full house and rising costs, we still need your help.
