Remy Leonard for Everett District Court Judge

Remy Leonard for Everett District Court Judge Help elect Remy Leonard as our next Everett District Court Judge. Remember to vote on November 4, 2014! In July of 1999 I was rotated to juvenile court.

Dear friends and colleagues:

I am seeking Everett District Court Judge position #1. I would like all who do not know me to learn a little bit more about who I am and why I am seeking the Everett District Court judge job. I am a proud Everett native who attended Everett public schools. I graduated from Cascade High School in 1990, received my BA in political science from WSU in 1993, and my JD fro

m the University of Oregon in 1997. During my law school summers I was a Rule 9 intern for the City Attorney’s Office in Everett. That is where I gained my first experience in prosecution. I was hired by the Snohomish County Prosecutor’s office in September 1997 and practiced in all four district court divisions. I prosecuted in the juvenile unit until the birth of my daughter in 2001; which included a year handling the juvenile Special Assault Unit caseload. From juvenile I rotated to the felony Domestic Violence unit, where I worked until September of 2003. It was then, with a two year old daughter and a son on the way, I decided to leave the prosecutor’s office to spend more time with my family. It was an incredibly difficult decision for me to leave the office (and people who in many ways had become another family to me). I learned a lot from my years in the prosecutor’s office and enjoyed the experience. I next did part-time contract work for a civil attorney in Seattle, primarily representing homeowner’s associations in King County District Court, until my son was born. In September 2004 I began to teach criminal law at Everett Community College. The flexible schedule was perfect for a mother of two young children. I became an associate professor and gradually worked up to full-time at EvCC in criminal justice, criminal law, arrest, search & seizure, criminal evidence, and victimology, as well as business law courses. In 2005 I also started teaching night classes at Columbia College, in both their undergraduate and MBA programs, and a political science course at Trinity Lutheran College in Everett. Throughout my time as a professor I kept my bar license active and continued to attend at least one Washington Association of Prosecuting Attorneys conference every year. This not only helped me stay current with changes in the law, but also greatly benefited my criminal justice students, many of whom are current or prospective law enforcement officers. I have always had the goal of becoming a judge, and was waiting for the right opportunity. When I learned that Judge Fisher was retiring I knew the opportunity was now. In order to prepare I have completed the WSBA pro tem training for district and municipal court. While continuing to teach, I serve as a judge pro tem in Edmonds Municipal Court, Marysville Municipal Court, Bothell Municipal Court, and Evergreen District Court. I have served about 270 hours on the bench so far. I am looking forward to using the experience I have gained in my 17 years as a licensed attorney practicing in both criminal and civil law, teaching the law, and pro temming, on the Everett District Court bench. I have a reputation for honesty, decisiveness, reasonableness, a hard, energetic work ethic, and respect for all whom I encounter. I will take these qualities and apply them as Everett District Court Judge. I am dedicated to making Everett District Court the best and most balanced court it can be. I already have the honor of being endorsed by the Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office, Snohomish County Executive John Lovick, former Snohomish County Executive Bob Drewel, Snohomish County Sheriff Ty Trenary, Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Roe, Everett Police Chief Kathy Atwood, the Everett Police Officer’s Association, the 38th Legislative District Democrats, and many others in the law enforcement, legal and political communities. A full list of my endorsements is available on my website at http://www.leonardforjudge.com

I humbly ask for your support for Everett District Court Judge. If you have any questions please contact me at [email protected]. And don't forget to vote on Nov 4, 2014! Sincerely,
Remy Stephanson Leonard
