I'm so very thankful for these two. They won't let us get close enough to pet them, but we have seen zero rat activity/droppings in our barn in the past several months. This is a huge win!!!

Gingersnap and Jellybeans are officially πŸ‘€ for new πŸ‘πŸšοΈπŸ›–. They are fully vaccinated, six months old, dehorned, A2/A2 genetics, and not f r e e. I SO wanted to have a family milk cow, but have come to the realization (yes, it takes me "doing it the hard way" sometimes) that they would do better with larger pastures. If you're interested, please message me directly.

Editing to add: if some wealthy benefactor wants to pay for hay and grain, I'd be willing to continue to let them live here. πŸ˜†. You could visit anytime, re-name them if you wanted, have as much raw milk, cream, etc once they are producing as you'd like. ❀️. With our smaller pastures, we don't have a large enough area for them to get most of their nutrition from grazing, so the feed bill is high.

Editing to add: the nachos were good. πŸ˜†

Today I feel defeated. We've lost several ducks and chickens to an unknown predator recently and I hate it. In fact, if anyone were to offer me close to a fair price for all of my animals right now, I'd take it. Cows, goats, chickens, ducks, rabbits, honeybees, livestock guardian dog and all.

I'm off to bury my frustrations in a plate of nachos and figure out how to turn my chicken and duck areas into a secured fortress. Tomorrow will be a better day.

Two things I'm thankful for today:

1) the barn was dry this morning (we've had some drainage issues recently, and with all the rain we had in the past 24 hours, this is a WIN!)
2) today I collected our first duck egg in months. I'm looking forward to longer daylight hours and more fresh eggs. 😊

There were challenges, too, but I'm trying to focus on the good.

Babies. ❀️

Thanksgiving weekend we had several additions to our small farm. Chloe had her first litter of kits and we had 15 chicks hatch.

Chloe does NOT appreciate people reaching into "her" space, and will let you know she wants you to back off. She loves the fresh blackberry vines I give her each day, though! πŸ˜†

The chicks were still in the incubator during our recent power outage. Even though our power was restored much faster than many others in our area, I wasn't sure how it might affect the hatch rates. We ended up at just under 60%. Not a great hatching percentage, but I'm very happy to have these. They are absolutely adorable! πŸ₯°

In the middle of this busy time of year (as I type that I wonder "is there ever a season that isn't busy?!?") I splurged on some "me time" today. Tom watched Mylen and covered my chores while I attended a class at Woods Bee Co. . Today's class was how to make beeswax cotton wraps (to help minimize our use of plastic wrap). It was SO enjoyable! Now I feel confident in creating a bunch of these for my own friends/family using beeswax from our own hives. ❀️

Our does... (I actually managed to get all ten of them in the second picture!). Most of these pictures feature our Arapawas. There's a couple sneak peaks of Willow in there, too. ❀️
