SKUNKS, getting an increase of deskunking calls. Please keep cornstarch on hand!!! Skunk spray is oil, usually dog is hit around face, neck or front sides. Hard to see the spot unless dog is white. Please apply cornstarch generously to entire area as soon as possible. Do not let oil dry in coat. If you have gloves wear them so oil doesn't get on you. (plastic bag in a pinch). After dog is saturated in cornstarch , wipe out mouth (paper towels, cloth) Brush teeth good, clean inside of ear leather with ear cleaner. Also, rinse eyes with saline, eye flush. Let cornstarch sit and absorb. Usually in the am any decent shampoo will remove the rest. Please never apply tomato products! Yes it covers smell, does not get it out. Very acidic for skin. The dawn, baking soda and peroxide mix can and will hurt the eyes if it gets in. Cornstarch completely safe, can be done in any weather outside. Actually works!!!
