Good morning! Hope everyone had a great weekend! Here is a Happy Tails for your Monday morning. šŸ¾ ā¤ ā¤

A while back, we rescued this litter of puppies. (See first photo). Mom of one of those puppies (Syren-see her puppy picture in photo 2) checked in with us after Syren and her brother Earnest connected and had a playdate!! (Photos 3 and 4) So cute!

It gets even better, though. Syren's mom reports "Syren has been busy, there is a team in Pleasant Park called Healing Hounds that are strictly therapy dogs for First Responders. Syren is looking forward to joining their team officially after she takes their test similar to AKC's Good Citizen. They had the opportunity to visit the evacuees from the Quarry Fire in the fall. She was the shining star...of course, they loved her. Thank you again for saving her. She brings so much joy to me and the masses!"

We love these updates! Have the best lives, Syren and Earnest!

**Foster Home Needed!!

Look at this gorgeous long haired GSD !! She is 2, and screaming for a Colorado home. She is currently in a home with other dogs and 3 cats and kids. She weighed 78 lbs at her spay appointment. She is a wonderful dog and her foster cannot praise her enough. We know she could go anywhere but feel strongly she deserves to be in a cooler climate with all of her fur.

Would Transport on 2/19. Email us at [email protected] if you can help out!

Happy Sunday! Hope your fur-babies let you sleep in a little this morning!

What a sweet update!

We feel so lucky at Just Cats Colorado - EAPL to have another heartwarming update on Simon! ā¤ļø

Simonā€™s forever family has gotten him all set up with a vetā€”such an important stepā€”and he is healthy and thriving! His family shares, ā€œHe is the sweetest boy ever! Our dog was a little afraid of him at first, but he forces her to love him, so all is good now! He loves on her all the time, and she has accepted it. We just got him a new cat tree so he has something to climb on. We just adore him so much!ā€

Simonā€™s journey is nothing short of incredible, and his life was saved by his devoted foster mother. Because of her love and care, he now has the happiest future ahead. Thank you to everyone who fosters, adopts, and supports rescueā€”Simonā€™s story is proof of the difference you make!

Who's a good boy? This guy certainly is. Max is a German Shepard mix. He's been in foster care a little over a year. The original owners had him since 2016, and unfortunately were unable to continue caring for him. He spent 8 great years living almost entirely off-leash, alongside horses, other dogs, and kids. Heā€™s very sociable and he has a very kind spirit. Heā€™s as playful and energetic as a puppy, so he would benefit from having people in his life who can play with him and take him walking, hiking, or running. If you are interested in this gem, please call 720-955-8923!!

A note from our partners at Evergreen Fire/Rescue!

**Maintain Heat Tape to Prevent Freezing and Fires**
By Einar Jensen, Risk Reduction Coordinator Evergreen Fire/Rescue

Heat tape isnā€™t tape at all. Itā€™s more of a flat cable or cord that is used to prevent pipes from freezing. Whether itā€™s a self-regulating or thermostat-controlled heat tape, it works well when installed and maintained as the manufacturer recommends.

Heat tape is designed with a regulation system that allows its two electrical wires to heat enough to prevent ice from forming, but not so much to dry and vaporize surrounding fuels and ignite fires.

If the wiresā€™ insulation disintegrates or breaks and wires either get too close or touch each other, they can arc and create a spark that can start fires.

Like other cords, it's important not to crush heat tape and to replace it if you notice any signs of aging. The green tape in the picture shows damage from heat (the blackened areas). Most heat tapes should be replaced after three years.

Here are some other safety tips for using heat tape:

1. Buy heat tape that's been tested and approved by a reputable agency such as Underwriters Laboratories (UL).
2. Regularly inspect heat tape for damage like cuts, charring, or bare wires.
3. If insulation is also being used make sure it is a non-flammable material like fiberglass.
4. Only wrap heat tape around itself if the manufacturer notes it's okay.
5. Plug heat tape into a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) receptacle.
6. Don't install heat tape on pipes that are leaking.
7. Do not use tape (duct tape, masking tape) to attach the heat tape.
8. Don't use heat tape on gutters, driveways, or fuel lines.
9. Unplug heat tape in the spring.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that heat tapes are involved in 2,000 fires each year across the nation. They are most often used in attics and basements, and under porches.

**Urgent-Foster Home Needed**

This is heartbreaking. This 8 or 9 month old brother/sister duo were dumped at a lake. A rescuer took them in because someone in the area was threatening to shoot them. šŸ˜¢ The shelter picked them up and they were returned to their owners who said they didnā€™t want them. Currently being fostered in Oklahoma in a home with a Husky and a tiny yard, and it's not a good situation. They are very sweet, know basic commands and mind very well. Can you help these two on their journey to a loving Forever? They truly deserve all the love in the world!

Email us at [email protected] if you can foster these babies!

"Hello my name is Cleo and I was rescued from the cold outdoors. I was skinny and scared and now I am a completely different cat. I truly live for cuddles and laps are my all time favorite. I prefer no other cats as I really don't want to share you. Dogs don't bug me though, I can deal with dogs. Oh and I love kids too. Really I love anyone who will pet and snuggle me. I am litterbox trained and all around am the perfect cat. I have been spayed and am current on my shots and because I came from the streets they are unable to predict my age but they are sure Im over the age of one. My rehoming fee is $50 which will go back to the vetting fees. Contact my foster mom at [email protected] if you would like to meet me. I am all the way in Brush, CO but my foster is willing to bring me to you if need be. She just wants me to go to a family like i deserve.

Health Tip of the Week

Have a fast eater? Slow it down. Inhaling food can cause all sorts of issues, including vomiting, choking or bloat. Here are some things to try:

šŸ¾ Buy a slow feeder. Here are some to try!

https://www.chewy.com/b/slow-feeders-1424

Or a toy feeder. These are great to work off some energy, too!

https://www.chewy.com/starmark-treat-dispensing-bob-lot-dog/dp/45492?utm_source=google-product&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=19996370614&utm_content=&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA4-y8BhC3ARIsAHmjC_G37-No3_wbHWP8fRPOm0Tz4DmzbnPBabO2XLp_3MbKy89Y5u77qDMaAs56EALw_wcB

šŸ¾ Hand feed: this can also work wonders with food aggression

šŸ¾ Seperate your pets at mealtime. Fast eating is often caused by competition, especially in animals who had limited access to food before rescue.

Always check your bowls, toys and feeders for signs of wear or damage and replace as necessary! Here's to a more zen way of feeding your dog!

This one apropos of today. Meet SNOWFLAKE!

Snowflake is a 7th month old kitten who had a rough beginning. Her mom was not cared for well as an indoor/outdoor cat during her pregnancy, which caused her kittens to struggle. She is now thriving, loves to play, cuddle and investigate. Snowflake was born with pectus excavatum. Pectus excavatum is a bony deformity that results in a sunken in sternum. This in turn creates a smaller than normal chest cavity. Snowflake has been doing well; her heart and lungs appear healthy. Because of this, she should not need any further therapy for this condition, and it should not affect her longevity! She's a great girl and deserves a great life. Complete a cat application at www.eapl.com to be approved. She is currently at a foster home in Evergreen. Once approved you can schedule a meet and greet!!

Snowflake is a super sweet and lovely gal! She loves to play, cuddle, and investigate her surroundings. We think her ears are so adorable!

This adorable puppy is looking for his Forever!! Please share to help us find this guy a home!

Chuck is a 3 month old Staffordshire Bull Terrier-mix. He and his siblings were flown in from Oklahoma to find their happily ever after here in Colorado. Chuck is the more reserved puppy of the bunch, but he is sweet and friendly and adorable!! He LOVES chew toys and can be content for long periods of time with chewing bones and toys, though he loves a good wrestling match with his brother too. He is currently being fostered in a home with a 6-year old dominant pit mix and 5 cats. He is curious about the cats but has respected their boundaries when the cats lay down the law. While he enjoys going outside for a sniff around, he prefers to be in the warm house sunbathing and will sit patiently by the door to tell you as much. Chuck will make a great addition to almost any family. Put in an application at eapl.com!!

Senior, selective lady looking for her Forever!

Su-Su is an older (13 year old ) Persian cat who tolerates other female cats but doesnā€™t have a lot of affection for males. Loving in her own way, but not fond of hand pets; prefers to rub against you Can be playful, but on her terms. Not unusual. Su-Su is taking her time acclimating, but likes a quieter environment, rather than the daily hustle and bustle of folks visiting. Be sure to look for her if you're interested in giving a lovely senior a home. Complete a cat application at www.eapl.com. Once approved you can make arrangements to adopt one of our available cats.

**Look at this adorable guy!!**

Lenny is a feisty, active puppy but also very sweet and affectionate. He is full of energy and likes playing with other dogs. Lenny's estimated birthdate is 9/21/2024 and he is about 14 pounds. He is probably a terrier mix- the vet thinks that he will be under 30 pounds. He is doing very well with potty training. He LOVES playing outside in the snow (a true Colorado boy!) Good with dogs, cats and people! Please put in an application at eapl.com if you are interested in Lenny.
