IT"S WORLD SPAY DAY - STOP LITTERING!

February 27th is World Spay Day, an international day of action to promote the sterilization of pets, as well as community cats and dogs, in an effort to save animals’ lives.

World Spay Day is also perfect for donating to your favourite animal rescue or shelter. Local rescues and shelters always appreciate donations. It helps them continue to offer programs and services to all the animals in their care. Please consider donating today. If you would care to help us in our fight against pet over population, donations can be sent via paypal at PayPal.me/lewiscountydogs or Venmo at FriendsofLewisCountyAnimals. Thank you! :)

Let’s try this again. Any help is greatly appreciated. Tickets are available through the end of the month. Thanks!

‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️ In need of rescue/foster or loving adopter!

Meet little Hero. He is a parvo survivor who fought the disease and won! He spent most of his young life at the vet until he was adopted in early November. Unfortunately, he was returned through no fault of his own. Due to not having a foster, Hero is back at the vet in boarding. He is a very sweet boy who absoultely adores people and he loves other dogs. He is current on vaccines but not yet neutered.Having been part of a family he is devastated to be back behind bars in a kennel at the vet. (though his caretaker spends alot of time with him) Hero also has a cough left over from his fight with parvo, but as he regains his strength, he is making strides in his health. Please share so we can find him a home/foster/rescue!

Can anyone foster Miss Darla? She is currently stuck in boarding at our vet. She is also available for adoption

Miss Darla (previously Calli) was found as a stray and brought to the Lewis County Animal Shelter. It was very evident this girl had been horrendously overbred. She was in rough shape, so we pulled her to go to the vet. Darla is very sweet, and good with other dogs, but at this stage in her life, puppies are too much energy for her, and she is a no for cats and other small animals. She would suit a quieter home with either no other pets, or older more settled dogs. She would also be best in a home with a yard or someone who can take her for walks. This girl just loves sooo hard, and now it's her time to be spoiled. Darla is current on vaccines and has been spayed. Her adoption fee is $65 and the application can be found on our page.

🆘❌🆘 Urgent rescue or foster needed!

Sugar and Trixie are five month old Lab/Bully mixes who are in need of rescue or foster. We pulled these sweet girls from the shelter to make room, and had them go to our vet for boarding. Unfortunately, Trixie broke with parvo but has recovered. Sugar was exposed but never had symptoms. They are super affectionate loving girls with very soft dispostions. They are great with other dogs and seem to be okay with cats. They have been stuck in boarding at our vet's for almost three weeks and really need to be in a foster home or to a rescue who can find them their forever home. Please Share!

As many of you already know all antibiotics will lose OTC status in June of this year. This means you must have a vvalid veterinary-client patient relationship (VCPR) to buy these medications.

Please understand this is not our decision and it’s not so we can make money. We would rather not assume this extra burden. It is already difficult with the responsibilities we already have. Most medications have have always been prescription and only affects a few antibiotics. Please don’t be mad if you come in on June 15th and we are not able to sell you a shot of LA200.

A VCPR as defined by the American veterinary medical association is as follows.

The veterinarian-client-patient relationship (VCPR)

The veterinarian-client-patient relationship (VCPR) is the basis for interaction among veterinarians, their clients, and their patients and is critical to the health of animals.

Establishing a veterinarian-client-patient relationship

A VCPR is present when all of the following requirements are met:

The veterinarian has assumed the responsibility for making clinical judgments regarding the health of the patient and the client has agreed to follow the veterinarians' instructions.
The veterinarian has sufficient knowledge of the patient to initiate at least a general or preliminary diagnosis of the medical condition of the patient. This means that the veterinarian is personally acquainted with the keeping and care of the patient by virtue of a timely examination of the patient by the veterinarian, or medically appropriate and timely visits by the veterinarian to the operation where the patient is managed.
The veterinarian is readily available for follow-up evaluation or has arranged for the following: veterinary emergency coverage, and continuing care and treatment.
The veterinarian provides oversight of treatment, compliance, and outcome.
Patient records are maintained.
The VCPR is defined in Section III of the AVMA’s Principles of Veterinary Medical Ethics. This document also includes a description of how the VCPR may be terminated.

The AVMA Model Veterinary Practice Act (Section 2 and Section 2 Commentary) further states the following:

The definition of "veterinarian-client-patient relationship" (VCPR) in subsection 20 was changed in 2012, and is now different from that embodied in federal regulation 21 CFR 530.3(i) relating to extralabel drug use.

In 2012, subsection 14 was revised to define "patient" as "an animal or group of animals." Therefore, the definition of VCPR can be applied to individual animals as well as a group or groups of animals within an operation (production system).

The AVMA recognizes that individual states may wish to more clearly define specific terms within the definition of VCPR. For example, a state regulatory board may wish to include a specific time period (eg, no less frequent than 6 or 12 months) to better delineate the term "timely" relating to examinations and visits.

The term "timely" should be considered in light of the nature and circumstances of the patient (eg, species, condition or disease, or operation).

In 2012, subsections 20-b and 20-c were revised for purposes of clarification. Subsection 20-e was added to state that patient records must be maintained to establish a VCPR.

States may also wish to further specify that when establishing a VCPR in the case of large operations, "sufficient knowledge" can be supplemented by means of:

examination of health, laboratory, or production records; or
consultation with owners, caretakers or supervisory staff regarding a health management program for the patient; or
information regarding the local epidemiology of diseases for the appropriate species.
Section 5 (and commentary) of the AVMA Model Veterinary Practice Act states the following:

No person may practice veterinary medicine in the State except within the context of a veterinarian-client-patient relationship.
A veterinarian-client-patient relationship cannot be established solely by telephonic or other electronic means.
