They ran back-and-forth. The fence, kept them apart. Every day, same time, same place. Morning, noon, and night. It never got old to them.

Every time they saw each other it was like the first time. Back-and-forth they ran again and again. Today was different. They wanted to play together. That’s when Joey decided to dig a hole.

It was an unspoken agreement, suddenly, Leon decided to join in. Within a few minutes, the job was complete. Joey and Leon were dirty, breathing heavily, but happily romping together.

Their happiness, short-lived, when their respective owners filled the holes with dirt and rushed them back into their yard.

Tomorrow they’d do it again, run back-and-forth, again and again.
