🖤 The Hardest Part of Rescue Work 🖤

Putting down horses we’ve built a relationship with and worked hard to train is the hardest part of rescue work. It’s not just about the money and time we invest in vet care, farrier services, and training; it's about the immense love and connection we develop with these incredible animals.

Yesterday was a particularly tough day for us. We took Moo Moo and Reba to our specialist vet, hoping to pinpoint the causes of their ongoing discomfort. The news we received was devastating. Both have permanent health issues that would cost thousands to address, with no guarantee of success. The prospect of them enduring long-term suffering was too much to bear.

Putting horses down is not only emotionally draining but also financially burdensome. Rescue work is costly, often pushing us into the negative, forcing us to pay out of our own pockets. It’s moments like these that make us question everything, make us want to give up. But we know that rescue is not just about saving animals; it's about giving them the best life possible, even when that means making the hardest decisions.

🐱 **Adoption Update: A Tale of Resilience and Hope** 🐱

Remember our little warrior kitten?

Just weeks ago, Amber was found in a dire situation, stuffed in a bag with 39 other kittens, all under four weeks old. The odds were against them, as they were infested with fleas, infections, and worms and many of her siblings tragically didn't make it. But through sheer resilience and a fighting spirit, this kitten pulled through.

Today, we are thrilled to share that Amber has found her forever home! She's now living her happily ever after, surrounded by love and care. This little survivor is a testament to the power of hope and the incredible will to live.

Thank you to everyone who supported these kittens during such a challenging time. Your kindness and compassion have made a world of difference.

🐾 **Kitten Update: A Tale of Survival** 🐾

It's been a tough journey for our little neonatal kittens, who were found in a dire state on the side of the road. Despite the odds, and with the help of a dedicated vet and antibiotics, we fought hard to save them.

Sadly, most of our tiny warriors passed away, but there’s a glimmer of hope. One brave kitten, the biggest of the bunch, pulled through! She’s still on antibiotics but is showing promising signs of recovery. 🌟

🐾 **Kitten Rescue Update** 🐾

We've been tirelessly caring for neonatal kittens found abandoned on the roadside with severe Chlamydiosis, a bacterial infection affecting their eyes and respiratory system. The majority of these kittens weighed under half a pound. Many had no appetite and had to be syringe-fed. Despite our best efforts, we've lost several along the way. The vet has provided amoxicillin and steroids, and they will be dewormed next week to avoid overwhelming their fragile bodies.

It's heartbreaking what some people do to innocent animals. Kansas City is overwhelmed with homeless animals, leaving many sick critters with nowhere to go. We're committed to giving these precious lives a fighting chance. 💪🐱

**🚨 Urgent Rescue: 8 Kittens Need Your Help! 🚨**

We’ve taken in 8 tiny kittens from a heartbreaking situation. They were among 29 kittens found dumped on the side of the road. These little ones are under 3 weeks old, suffering from severe respiratory infections, flea infestations, and swollen eyes. 🐾💔

Here are their “before” pics—capturing their brave spirits before we gave them meds, a Dawn soap bath, and lots of love. 🛁❤️

Moo moo got her teeth floated yesterday and has a chiropractic appointment next week! We are getting her ready for some saddle training! Moo moo was originally thought to be 17-18 years old, but after her teeth float, the vet believes she is more like 11-12 years old. She is still nervous and stand-off ish but she is learning quickly. Getting horses like Moo moo training, vet care, and regular maintenance is costly. Please consider a donation to help towards care of these rescues. We appreciate you 🦄

Great news! Reba's 5-panel genetic testing came back clean, meaning she's healthy and ready to find her forever home. She has an old scar on her back from a horse bite but it doesn’t bother her. Reba is not saddle trained.

Let’s talk about Reba, one of our beautiful rescue horses. We’ve posted many training videos of her journey and struggles as she has yet to find a home.

🐴 Recently, Reba has faced some challenges in her training, which led us to suspect that she might have HERDA (Hereditary Equine Regional Dermal Asthenia), a genetic skin disease that can cause pain and affect behavior. See her slow healing wound below.

To get to the bottom of this, we've sent off Reba's hair for genetic testing. Majority of horses with this disease get euthanized 😭

Do you know about HERDA (Hereditary Equine Regional Dermal Asthenia)? It's a genetic skin disease that affects some horses, causing their skin to be fragile and easily torn. This would make sense why Reba has been struggling with being touched and progression with her overall training.
