LEGISLATIVE ALERT‼️ Animals in New Hampshire need you to take action TODAY to prevent dangerous legislation from moving forward. A hearing for HB 616 is scheduled for next Tuesday, April 22. Please contact your state senator and members of the Judiciary Committee today and urge them to vote NO on HB 616.

You can say, “As a voting constituent, I am asking you to actively oppose HB 616. This is a dangerous, unworkable bill that would cripple animal cruelty investigations in New Hampshire. It blocks enforcement, defunds care, and puts animals and communities at risk.”

WHY YOUR VOICE MATTERS: HB 616 seeks to tie the hands of animal welfare organizations and police departments from investigating suspected cases of animal abuse or neglect. It includes the removal of humane agents, putting responsibility of animal investigations on the State Veterinarian’s office or police departments—both have limited resources and would be unable to take on the volume of work needed to protect animals in distress.

In addition, it would force law enforcement to charge owners with animal cruelty without consideration of circumstances such as mental illness, physical health of the owner, etc. If the police do not charge, under this bill, the animal welfare organization would be charged with theft by unauthorized taking and the animals would be forced to be returned to the neglect or abuse they had already been suffering.

VIENNA UPDATE ❤️‍🩹

She’s a strong little lady! Her surgery last week was a success and she’s feeling so much better already.

Here’s a recap of what was done:
-All her remaining teeth were removed (she only had 12)
-The hole connecting the roof of her mouth and her nose was closed
-Her nose/mouth was flushed to get the goo out
-Lab samples were collected/sent out to figure out what kinds of ick we’re dealing with and how to best treat them

Despite having a whole bunch of sutures in her mouth her appetite has been great! You can tell from the pre-surgery picture that her teeth were super painful, so with those gone she’s definitely feeling a lot of relief.

All of her lab results have come back and the good news is that her bloodwork looks remarkably normal! Her respiratory swab PCR is a bit of a mess (positive for chlamydia, herpes, and mycoplasma) but that’s not really a surprise. She’s been on an antibiotic for those and is already looking better!
We also cultured a very large chunk of goo from the back of her throat. That came back as a fun fusobacterium infection which requires a different antibiotic to avoid tissue death 😵‍💫

As far as behavior goes, she’s nervous but not aggressive. Vienna has lived her entire life outside and while she was very comfortable with the people in her neighborhood, she’s had a lot of change in the last week and it’s an adjustment. I know she’ll adapt to her retired life well with time 🖤

Vienna’s bill ended up being $5,000. We’ve been able to raise $3,400 thanks to everyone’s generous support!

🚨VIENNA NEEDS EMERGENCY SURGERY‼️

We trapped Vienna yesterday as she was struggling to breathe and refusing to eat. It was immediately clear something was very wrong with her mouth - even from far away you can smell the decay.

She saw our vet this morning and not only does she have massively infected teeth, but some are also dislocated AND she has an oronasal fistula (a hole going from the inside of her mouth into her nasal cavity).

The condition her teeth are in is excruciatingly painful. That alone would prevent her from eating, but it’s only made worse by the fistula - any food she tries to eat goes right up into her nose. It’s no wonder she was looking so ragged ☹️

Vienna is having emergency surgery right now to remove her teeth and close the fistula. There was no question that this surgery couldn’t wait even over the weekend.

Our current estimate is around $5,000. I know we just had a big bill with Teddy Graham, but I’m hoping we’ll be able to rally together again for Vienna.

This is a situation that is very close to my heart; Vienna is one of Bennie’s old friends.
That property sold last year and she was left behind to deteriorate all by herself. I’m upset, I’m angry, and I’m so disappointed. I don’t know how this is allowed to happen over and over again.

Baby Smoochie has reached 5 weeks which is the age where chaos begins! Mess aside, he wanted to show everyone his newfound litter box skills 🤩 once a p**p goblin, always a p**p goblin

Sadly we had to say goodbye to Teddy Graham this afternoon 💔

He had perked up a little bit overnight so we transferred him to a larger hospital where he could see a neurologist, however soon after he rapidly declined.
Even though it’s not the outcome we all would’ve liked, I know that we tried everything we could’ve for little Teddy. He passed away warm, loved, and with a full belly.

Thank you so, so much to all who donated towards Teddy’s bill. We do still owe about $500 for his end-of-life care and any further donations in his memory are greatly appreciated 🧡

🚨 TEDDY GRAHAM NEEDS URGENT HELP 🚨

A good samaritan found this poor stray in the ice this evening and reached out for help. We rushed him to the emergency vet where he will remain hospitalized.

Teddy most likely sustained some kind of substantial physical trauma and is currently paralyzed.
We want to at least give him a chance, which means we desperately need donations to 1. keep him comfortable, and 2. figure out the cause/any potential treatment.

*ADOPTION PENDING*
1,138 DAYS WITHOUT A HOME

This is a familiar face around here! We’ve posted Cardboard a whole bunch in the 3 years he’s been with us but despite all the likes, shares, and well wishes, he still hasn’t found his people.

Cardboard (“Bort” for short) didn’t have an easy start in life; he was found alone in the Bronx, sitting in a cardboard box. Thankfully he was brought to the city shelter for a chance at a brighter future.
We were in love with Bort the second we saw his ACC intake photo. He looked a little grimy, a little disheveled, and a little goofy. Just our type!
When we welcomed Bort into our rescue here in New Hampshire, we could’ve never predicted that he’d still be homeless years later.

He initially struggled to adjust to all these big life changes, but now Bort is truly a “people cat.” He’s a snugglebug and always wants to be in your lap. He’s also a total class clown and his silly antics (like his recent heist of an entire loaf of bread) will definitely keep you entertained!

We’re hoping 2025 will finally be the year Bort finds his forever 💛

His perfect home would have no children under 13yrs. He’s never lived with dogs, but he would likely be okay sharing his space with a cat-savvy dog. Bort likes other cats but can sometimes come on a little strong, so any potential feline housemates should be accommodating to that and able to introduce slowly.

Didn’t find your perfect match in time for Valentine’s Day? Neither did Static and Spark Plug!

These two kittens are looking for an ⚡️electric⚡️ connection with a patient family.
Spark Plug is shy at first, but she warms up with time and will become a great little companion. She enjoys being pet and playing around the house.
Static is much more shy than his sister and relies on her for support and security. He does slowly acclimate, but still much prefers his sister over any humans.

They’re looking for a stable home that will celebrate all their gradual progress and offer them lots of toys and cozy nap spots. They currently live with dogs and other cats. They would prefer a home with no children under 13.

Happy one week birthday to baby Smoochie!
He’s growing like a w**d and is starting to open his lil eyeballs 🥰

So far his favorite hobbies include screaming and trying to scale everything but being too uncoordinated to do so successfully.

Cupid made a special delivery just in time for Valentine’s Day!
Meet baby Smoochie 🥰 this little one was left behind by his mama so he needs some extra care to grow up big and strong.
We picked up Smoochie yesterday afternoon and so far he’s doing great! He is VERY opinionated and has quite the set of lungs, but takes his bottle like a champ.

If you’d like to send Smoochie a valentine, he could really use some gifties off our Amazon wishlist! This is much earlier in the year than we’re used to seeing kittens, so needless to say we haven’t stocked up yet 😅

Oh hi! You may have noticed that we’ve been taking a bit of a break.

I had been dealing with some pretty bad burnout (aka compassion fatigue) for most of 2024 and though I tried to taper things down to a manageable level, a full stop was ultimately needed.
Some things like daily kitty care and adoptions are impossible to pause, so that meant that social media and emails/messages were put on hold. If I missed any communications I apologize!!

While I get back into the swing of things (at a much more sustainable level) I appreciate everyone’s continued patience 🥰
If you want an update on a specific cat, let me know and I’ll add it to my to-do list!

P.s. Ness is still the boss lady around here and she’s very thankful for everyone who donated freeze dried chicken snacks
