Our very own Dr. Helen McCahon celebrates 30 years as a veterinarian. She graduated from Mississippi State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 1992, and continues to grow in knowledge of both large and small animals. Since then she has become a mother of 6, a small animal practice owner, and has volunteered for the Chester County 4-H livestock clubs. To us, there is not a single human who embody’s true passion, kindness, and selflessness as Dr. McCahon. Dr. McCahon’s willingness to teach the future generation is on full display daily. We are forever grateful for the sacrifices she has made for the entire Colebrook community. We love you so much! Congrats on 30 years & here’s to many more!
Love,
The Colebrook Staff 💌

When you are raising and training a pup into an adult dog… you should really only need to buy a leash one time.
This is a current clients leash whose puppy chewed through moments after arriving for a lesson. I’m absolutely not knocking my client as they were not the first and won’t be the last to have this happen.
My concern is through the years I have met so many clients who have a new leash almost every week. They buy them as often at least as they buy a bag of dog food.

How does this happen?
Why are you letting it happen?

You are allowing a small correctable thing to become a habitual behavior problem.

Teeth on leashes are never tolerated. Just don’t allow them to do that. Don’t be afraid to correct the dog. Don’t waste your time redirecting them either.
If you are training them right you should be able to keep their attention. If they are chewing the leash you have lost their attention.

Besides that it’s a good way to get an untrained or partially trained dog killed because you are using faulty equipment.

Inspect your leashes each time you use them.

It’s a weekly thing that I’m standing in front of a client and their dog…. And I can see peripherally what is going on and they are oblivious.

Stay observant and nip that crap in the bud ASAP.

Most trainers have been using the same leash or two for decades. To us it is like a fine paintbrush is to an artist. We don’t toss them away and get a new one every project. We take care of them and they last almost a career. 🤷‍♂️

Folks… I will leave you with this.

Dog training is about the little things. When you do not care enough about the little things your goals will
always be out of reach.
