When it comes to ticks and tickborne pathogens, who are the 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐞𝐬 and who are the 𝐕𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬? 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐲 #𝟏 is the white-footed mouse. 🐭 This common mouse host multiple larvae and nymph ticks throughout the summer months. Through this process, ticks can transmit pathogens to other feeding ticks and also infect the mice which can then infect more ticks. The white-footed mouse is very successful in this process! Continue to follow us as we share ways to help reduce ticks from feeding on mice in your backyard! 🚫

Non-recognition aggression can occur between cats that know each other and live together. This typically happens when one cat leaves the home—often for a vet visit—and returns with a different scent or altered behavior due to anesthesia or medication. It can also happen if a cat visits a groomer and comes home smelling or looking different.

Scent is crucial for cats in recognizing one another. When a cat returns home smelling of a hospital or with the fragrance of a grooming product, it may seem unrecognizable to the other cat.

The cat that stayed home may start stalking and attacking the returning cat, behaving as if it has never seen the other cat before.

Tips to help prevent or manage non-recognition aggression:

1) Try to take all your cats to the vet at the same time or on the same day. This way, they will all carry the same vet scent, reducing the chances of non-recognition.

2) If your cats are regularly groomed, schedule their grooming appointments for the same day.

3) If you've experienced non-recognition aggression before, take steps to prevent it:
a) Bring the returning cat inside in its carrier, covered with a towel, so the cats can't see each other.
b) Place the cat in a separate room for a few hours to allow it to decompress and to give the other cat time to re-acclimate to its presence.
c) Wipe the returning cat with a blanket that has its scent on it, or wipe both cats with a pet wipe, to help them smell the same and re-establish their bond.

❌🆘❤️‍🩹We are posting Zesty to make you aware, once again , that DOG FLEA AND TICK MEDICATION CANNOT BE USED ON CATS 🐱 ❤️‍🩹🆘 ITS TOXIC AND DEADLY ☠️
Zesty ended up being rushed to the EMERGENCY VET having seizures . We took over his care .

He is lucky to be alive .
Please do not ever use Dog medications on Cats.
We think that we make this clear on a regular basis but unfortunately we haven’t reached everyone .
So we will keep trying .

Please read directions before using any products on your animals , if you are unsure , DON’T .

We now have another hefty bill to pay 💰 because we saved another life .
This poor boy is so incredibly sweet and lucky to be alive.

Please help if you can. 🙏

Barn Cats need Love Too ❤️
Our barn cats are cats that cannot be placed in homes (they are often times not handleable)
There is no fee for Barn Cats but we do ask for a donation toward their care.

We are in great need of Barn Cat Placements! It’s important that we get these cats the homes that they need so we can open cage space for all of the incoming cats this Spring.

These particular cats were in very poor condition when we took them in, we are looking for loving homes where they will never have to worry about being fed , safe and warm ever again.

We have healthy, sterilized cats in desperate need of new indoor/outdoor homes. These cats are feral (semi-wild) and need to live at a farm, horse stable, warehouse, plant nursery, or other suitable outdoor location.

Veterinarian care has been given (negative test for feline leukemia, sterilized, rabies shot, distemper shot, and exam).
The property owners only responsibility will be to provide daily food/water, protection from the elements, and long-term vet care. After a short period of secure confinement, the cats will accept your barn as their new home.

The cats will keep rodents away from grain and food storage areas…and when there are no rats or mice, any snakes go to your neighbors. If you own or manage property and have permission for long-term placement of animals on the property, please call us! We will assist you while the cats settle into their new home.

Thank you for helping us to care for all animals and to place them in suitable -proper environments to meet their individual needs!

We can not believe that Hope has been with us for 6 weeks now! 💔

Hope is a 12 week old mixed breed, we aren’t sure what she is but the vet has her listed as a Lab mix. She is a super sweet girl with so much love to give everyone! She is good with other dogs, cats, and kids. She is crate trained and working hard on her house training & leash skills. She hates staying here at the shelter, all she wants is to be in a home! She will make the perfect family addition! She loves to play in our doggy pools!

🗓 Check the Chip Day is on 8/15
This day is meant to serve as a reminder to pet owners to check and update their pets’ microchip registration information. Microchips are very effective for identifying lost pets and reuniting them with their families, but the happy ending can’t occur if the microchip registration isn’t correct – or if the chip has never been registered at all.
