It's that time of year again when we need to think about snow. If there are people who want the dog park to remain open this winter we need volunteer snow shovelers for the entry area and gates. If no one steps forward the dog park will close for the winter after the first snow. I don't mind being the lawn mower and weed-whacker person but my back can't take shoveling.

Would anyone be interested in taking an advanced puppy class in Pittsford this winter?...it would probably be on a Saturday or Sunday. The fellow who did the trick dog demonstration at the dog park's grand opening and also the clicker training demonstration and mini workshop at our event this summer would be the one teaching it. Let me know...we have 3 already but need 6 people

Flea & Tick control at the dog park: For those wondering, I spray all natural Wondercide once a month in both areas of the Fur Haven Dog Park. It's completely safe and the dogs can even go in there while it's still wet.

On a side note, I was in the small dog area this morning weed-whacking and then spraying and there was a massive dog size p**p in the small dog area. If you can't police your dog please don't bring them to the dog park...I shouldn't have to pick up after anyone's dog!

A huge thank you goes out to my helpers today at the coin drop!...Susan Smith, Linda Sienkiewicz & Angela Alfinito. A massive thank you to all those who stopped to drop money in our buckets...we raised enough money to get a picnic table and shade structure for the small dog area, money to cover expenses for the Dawg-A-Palooza party on June 17th with money left for operating expenses. All of you rock! The best part was hearing from all the people who love our Fur Haven Dog Park!

There will be a Dawg-A-Palooza (fun dog party/fundraiser) at the Fur Haven Dog Park on Saturday June 17th 11-2:00...we'll have free hot dogs,chips, soda. We're adding new events all the time! Roxy Cooper will do nail trims for $12, Dick Cillo will give a clicker training demonstration with a chance for several lucky people to get a mini lesson from him, there will be a dog costume contest, dog challenge contests, prizes for the pups, basket raffles, therapy dog info, a dog kissing booth and a dog supplies swap meet. Anyone wanting a space to sell their dog related items can rent a space for just $5...just contact me. The dog park and events are totally funded by donation so come out and have a fun day while supporting the Fur Haven Dog Park. Also we'll be collecting animal food donations for Fair Haven Concerned so please bring cans and bags of cat and dog food.

Yay!...the Fur Haven Dog Park has reopened! The water is turned on! You might want to bring your own water bowl as we'd rather dogs don't spread the respiratory virus going around. It's dry enough now that the park can be used but please be aware that it may close temporarily if we get lots of spring rains.

A final reminder...there is a receptacle for p**p bags and bags available in both areas...it's not fair to expect volunteers to clean up after your dog.

Enjoy the dog park and be considerate of others.

While it doesn't have a name and we still aren't sure of the cause, we are encouraging dog owners to take extra precautions to avoid exposure. If visiting a dog park, dog daycare, or other places where dogs may be in close contact, take note of who your dog comes into contact with and see a veterinarian immediately if you start to notice your dog is exhibiting symptoms (coughing, trouble breathing, labored breathing, white foam in mouth). An update for those wondering when the dog park will reopen...The dog park has been closed since the truck hit the fence and screwed up the gate...it was fixed but we've been in no hurry to open it back up...we're thinking not til after mud season. Have you seen how horrible the W Rutland dog park looks? (you can see it from the highway)...it's all mud and standing water. If we open it before it thaws and dries out we'll never have those lovely grass areas again. I know some will disagree with waiting but it's for the well-being of the lovely grass park
