Brushing and using a steel comb to remove matting in between your grooming appointments at Pawsitive Vibes will help prevent your doodles coat from getting tangled and matted. This can lead to irritation and sores. Even mild matting is painful. At Pawsitive Vibes we always demat your fur baby prior to bathing. This process can take several hours depending on how severe the matting is. This is why

it’s so important to brush your pup daily to prevent matting and prolonged grooming for your fur baby. Severe cases, on the other hand, can cut off circulation and cause hematomas. Not to mention that as your Doodle gets older, they become more prone to matting. In cases of severe matting it would be recommended to shave your pup and start over. There are a couple of reasons why matting occurs. One of these is friction. Matting often occurs in the parts of your dog where there’s a lot of friction. This includes legs where they come in contact with the floor or the grass. The armpits, where the collar or the harness sits, is also one of the main areas where matting occurs. The areas where they scratch the most (e.g. behind the ears) are included as well. Surprisingly, water also contributes to matting as it clumps fur together. It also tightens matted fur which is why you have to be sure to brush your dog’s fur before they go swimming or you bathe them at home. Brushing And Combing
Doodles should be brushed daily or every other day. This is needed to prevent knots, tangles and mats! I know this sounds like a lot but you can use this as a bonding time between you and your fur baby. Get the kids involved too! It’s better to brush them daily than deal with matting, after all. If you have trouble with your Doodles coat because of tangles, remember to start from the bottom and move your way to the top of their body. Gently pick the tangles with a comb or a pin brush without ripping out hair. Be gentle when you do this, you wouldn’t want to hurt your dog. You need a high quality slicker brush and a comb. The kind of brush also depends on your pups needs. I can advise you on the type of brush and steel comb you would need. Typically, Doodles’ coats should be cut every 4 to 6 weeks. Exactly how often depends on your preference regarding their appearance and their coat type. I can advise you on how often your pup should be groomed. Each pup has different needs. Panda is an adorable 1 1/2 year old Lhasa Apso that is in desperate need of a great home to start over in. Panda was turned in due to his family not having the time to care for him, so they sought out a better life for him. Panda was severely matted when he arrived and he needed to be shaved completely down, but fear not! He's going to bloom into a ball of fluff in no time! Panda is nervous when he first meets a new friend but if you're patient and let him get to know you, he'll bond with you within minutes. Once that happens, it's all over. You're his best buddy for life! Panda is happy to be held and cuddled, and he's so great on a leash, he's housebroken, and he's super zoomy and playful when the mood strikes him! He grew up with kids, and we don't believe he's had much exposure to other pets, but he's open to meeting well-mannered dogs and seeing how it goes. Happy Doodlecember 😄 Rocky needs a home!

Rocky is a big doodle mix who came to us recently when his owners could no longer care for him. Weighing in at 75lbs, this happy 3-year-young boy is a ball of energy and fun 🎉 Rocky is a romping good time and loves to run around and play with toys! Sometimes this big boy doesn’t know his own size, so stay steady on your feet 😇 Rocky would love a family to help him on his basic training so that he can be the best dog he can be ❤️ Rocky may be able to live with other compatible dogs and could be okay with dog-savvy kids comfortable with big silly breeds.

Sweet senior Sue - still waiting for a family ❤

Sue came to the shelter recently when her owner passed away. It was a big change for this girl to have to leave only the home and family she knew and she whimpered all day at the shelter ☹ Sue was lucky enough to be placed in a Loveafoster home where she has been nothing short of perfect ❤ Sue is around 7-years-young and is a mild-mannered girl who like most hound mixes, likes to sniff around and lounge! She still gets spurts of "old lady energy" but most of her day is spent snoozin' 😴 Sue currently lives with two other dogs in his foster home and she gets along with them just fine 🐾 We think she could live with other dogs as long as they respect her space.

Is this your dog? If so, she is safe with us at AHS Popcorn Park at 1 Humane Way, Forked River, NJ. Not only is she safe, but she's being loved, spoiled, carried around, and she's sprawling out in one of our offices because she is just the sweetest, most confused little Granny that follows everyone around as if she has no idea how she came to be with us. She was found around midnight under the Pkwy overpass on Dover Road in So. Toms River on Nov. 2nd. She is spayed, wearing a collar with no tags, not microchipped. She appears to have chronic dry eye but is in good shape otherwise. She is a senior.

Sparky's name suits him perfectly! He's a sparky and silly little terrier of about 2 years old that was found in a city park. Un-neutered, matted and neglected, and with no ID, Sparky could definitely use a better home than wherever it is he came from. Sparky is nothing but fun and games! He's had some training in his young life but it's as if he'll try not to use his training just to see if he can get away with it. He's very puppyish and will get mouthy while playing if you let him, but once you tell him to behave, he listens well. It seems that Sparky doesn't know much about toys but he enjoys zooming around to check out all he can sniff. He's good on a leash, he sits and takes treats gently too. Sparky seems happy to meet other dogs but he'll need a home with older kids. He could be ok with cats with plenty of responsible supervision. Sweet Ben, he's underweight and just has not been shown much (if any!) Love in his life.. 😓 We are feeding him some good calorie food and showing him that all humans are not mean. He's a little Dollbaby! If you have extra love to give and need a companion to hang out with, Ben is waiting for you.

Chorizo has his “adopt me” face on today 😄

This little guy keeps getting passed up, and we don’t know why 😭 Chorizo is a little chihuahua mix who’s about 3 months and 5lbs 💙 He’s been on a few sleepovers with his staff friend and he’s described as the cuddliest little lap dog who loves to be held and snuggle 🫶🏻 Chorizo met some other dogs and we think he’d do well with calm, gentle canine friends who will be mindful of his tiny size - or he’d be just as happy as your only baby ❣️ Chorizo is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and ready to go home!
