It’s a beautiful boy and my Mama named him Duncan! ♥️. I was on my way to PT this morning - actually, I was pulling in the parking lot, when my mom called and said “how long until you get back home?” I said “hours from now, why?” She said “because one of the cows is having its baby!” (I gave my mom access to the cameras in my barn - best thing I ever did! 😉). Went in to PT and re-scheduled until this afternoon and before I had gone 3 miles back toward home the calf was born! I did all the newborn things, and left mama and baby to it! Was only 15 minutes late for my tire appointment! 🤦🏻‍♀️. Busy day of appointments and errands today - of course that’s when the babies come!

Well, we kicked off 2024 calving season with a heifer born in the snow and mud sometime overnight Saturday into Sunday. We have spent the past 3 days warming her and getting food in her and 💩 out of her! She’s pretty close to eating all on her own! Yesterday, (Monday) in the very early morning after feeding the Mud Puppy, I was starting to walk towards the house (4:45am), and I heard a calf cry. It did not sound like it came from in the barn - then I heard a mama “talking” to a calf. Mind you, I had walked around doing a calf check with the big spotlight before feeding mud puppy. There was Dixie licking her calf in the mud by the round bale feeder! So, I hollered for Dave who had went ahead of me and washed the baby bottle etc., and was heading for the house - I said “you’re going to be late for work, there’s another calf!” Welcome to calving season! 2 Heifers 0 Bulls. Will post pics of heifer #2 later today! These are all Mud Puppy.

Welcome to Michigan winter. 😩 Good thing our pasture has a few high areas for the cows to bed down. I’d rather it was cold and frozen! It’s going to be 50* here tomorrow. In early February. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Well yesterday was finally the day to let the cows and calves out on the pasture. I really expected more excitement- they just slowly moved out there and the babies were very hesitant at first.

Dinah was feeling under the weather on Sunday - I believe she had pneumonia - I treated her and yesterday she rested most of the day. Check her out this morning! 😂♥️

Spring calves so far! 4 out of 5 have our trademark Goggles! Very happy with our herd bull - all un-assisted births and lower birth weights than we have had in years! Definitely keeping the two heifers!

Apparently my calves are coming 2 at a time this year! Tess had her little bull calf out in the pasture and Keisha had her long legged heifer in the barn! Keisha at noon and Tess a little before that is my guess! 5 cows have calved, 6 calves. 4 bulls and 2 heifers born. But the count is at 3 and 2 - one twin never breathed air due to the sack being over his mouth and nose. 😞

Another busy morning here at the farm. Annie had a set of twins. Unfortunately one of the boys came out with the sac still wrapped tight around his mouth and nose and mom must have been taking care of the other calf. I pulled the sac off and did chest compressions, but it was too late. 😢

Kicked off calving season this morning with this beautiful heifer calf “Tina”. With the bad weather coming overnight, the other 5 who are extremely “ripe” will probably all decide to calve at the same time! 🤦🏻‍♀️. Bring it on! I got this!!! 💪🏼
