The current state of things. And the festivities are just getting underway. It’s gonna be a long night for the Husky Wolfy but she’s in her “safe space”, aka my brother’s closet.
For years now this closet has been the Husky Wolfy’s go to for “comfort” when humans play w/ fireworks. She doesn’t like the noise never mind the booms that resonate through the whole house. But she trusts me when I convey to her that our pack is safe & that she’s safe in the closet.
After all our years together (10 years!) we have a ritual we go through. She heads towards the room w/ her closet safe space, I open the door, let her into the room, & place a blanket on the floor for her. (Although tonight’s blanket is dirty sheets! 🙄😆) She always moves the blanket around like she’s moving snow or dirt until she has things just right & then she lays down & settles in.
With the exception of checking in on her once in a while, I leave her alone. She trusts that the pack isn’t going to flee w/o her so I don’t over do the attention. As a primate, I want to take her in my arms & console her like I would a human child.
BUT, as an effective I know that I have to engage w/ her like the that she is. If I interact w/ her w/ concern I confirm for her that she should be concerned. If I stay calm & certain, so too does she.
Besides, Loki the Mischief Maker Mini Panther is here to back to his Husky Wolfy up w/ all the support she needs! 🐺🐈⬛
