Join us at the new Food Security and Market Gardening Community Workshops, every Thursday and Saturday starting June 29th.

The AFFECT food security and market gardening program is a grant- funded program designed to train the next generation of farmers in interior Alaska and get more people growing food for our community.

The first day of each class will be in the classroom. The next part of that class will be in the field doing farm tours/ visits. The two part classes will be on Thursdays from 6-8 pm at the Volunteer Clubhouse, and Saturdays times and locations, TBD.

Session 2 June 29th to July 22nd

Session 3 July 27th to August 31st

OH NO - the Hospice Greenhouse's furnace failed over the weekend & they lost most of their starts for their annual Hospice Plant Sale! If YOU are a local gardener, this is a great opportunity to meaningfully support the big work Hospice does, providing caring services for Fairbankans to die with dignity, on their own terms.

Donations of plants can be brought to the greenhouse at 2000 Turner Street starting this Wednesday
The greenhouse hours are
Monday - Friday, 10 am - 5 pm
Saturday, 10 am - 2 pm
Let them know if you have a donation they can pick up, and they'll coordinate.
If you'd like to financially support Plant Sale, call the Foundation office at 907-458-5550 or stop by the Hospice Office from 9 am - 4:30 pm Mon - Friday.

We love seeing our towers put to good use! Nice work to the folks over at NAMI, their basil is looking great after their hydroponics class with Mel.

AFFECT is building 100 hydroponic grow towers to distribute to qualifying Fairbanks residents so they can grow food at home year round. With help from some amazing volunteers we have already built and distributed 35 towers and have many more to go. If you are interested in helping out at our next community tower build or getting a tower for yourself or your organization, email us at [email protected] to see if you qualify.

Tomorrow AFFECT Community Farm is hosting a FREE cooking workshop with Chef Marisa Pena, the Program Manager of the Stone's Throw Culinary Training Program at Bread Line Inc.

Looking for a way to get involved and help out your community? We are looking for volunteers to help us build hydroponic towers to distribute to qualifying Fairbanks residents.

Volunteers will help cut, drill, and assemble the towers. The building process is easy to do and extensive instructions and assistance and all tools necessary for the build will be provided. As a bonus incentive, one tower will be raffled off to the volunteers.

Thanks to Boreal Woods Mushroom Farm for teaching a mushroom growing workshop today! Matt took us on a tour of every step of the mushroom growing process and sent everyone home with a white oyster mushroom grow block to try growing at home!

Hello Fairbanks Seniors! We still have a few spots left in our 2 pm session of our gardening workshop taught by Mel Sikes. This will take place at the Fairbanks Senior Center Annex location on Airport Way. This session is for SENIORS ONLY and our community wide session is full this evening. If you didn't get a chance to sign up, don't worry! We have plenty more workshops coming up this summer, stay tuned for more.

What has AFFECT been up to this summer??

Lots of gardening!!! We worked with Youth For Habitat to build garden boxes at the Food Bank. We helped plant and coordinate soil sampling and soil health workshops at multiple community gardens.
