***Goldenheart Hedgehogs Policies***

Reservations and Deposits:
To be considered for adoption, please fill out the application on: https://form.jotform.com/theresa.b.theurer/hedgehog-adoption-application-form. We will get back to you within 72 hours after submitting your application to discuss your answers and any questions we or you may have. If all our questions are answered and there are no issues then you will become an approved adopter. Once you become an approved adopter, then we will send you a Paypal invoice via email which will include the $50 Non-Refundable Deposit Fee (which is applied to the final cost of the hedgehog along with the application fee) to reserve your place on the waitlist. (What is a waitlist?: A waitlist is a list of people who are very interested in getting a baby animal, & who wants to be put on a list to be the ones that the breeder will first contact when babies are born, & when deposits can be placed on available babies, to ensure that the person receives a baby.) Remaining balance is due at pick up of the hedgehog but can be paid prior to pickup if wanted, we accept Cash, PayPal, Cashapp or Facebook Pay for payment at pickups. You will also be expected to sign our adoption contract at the time of pickup.
Our Current Adoption Process/Information:
We are no longer doing waitlists for specific litters. Sometimes things do not go as planned with expected litters and a mamma turns out not to be pregnant, the pregnancy isn't vital, or babies do not survive weaning.
A general timeline~ breeding pair is together for one week. IF that breeding was successful (it isn't always), then a hedgehog's gestation is 35-50 days and babies won't be ready for their new homes until they are 6-8 weeks old. You are looking at around 3 months before getting a baby and that's with no one in front of you on the waiting list. Don't worry though! The wait is worth it.
Our hedgehogs come FIRST. If a litter is not successful then this could extend your wait time by several months. We will NEVER breed a female that is not ready or has not had enough rest just to get you a baby faster.
We only have a certain number of spots on the waitlist and our application will be closed when waitlists are full. Stay tuned on our page for when spots open back up.
We will tell you once you are an approved adopter what litter you are expected to get from but again no guarantee it will be from that litter.
One the expected babies are born, we will PM everyone to let them know. After babies are around 3 weeks then we will message everyone with photos of the available babies and inform everyone of their spot on the waitlist and if they can receive a baby from the current litter or the next. I will go down the list in order of who put their deposit down & contact each person to ask which baby they would like from the ones available. You will then have 24 hours to respond with your pick, if you do not respond within 24 hours with your pick we will assume you’re no longer interested & move on to the next person on the list (in order). *But you will not be bumped off the list.*
Sales Policies:
We will not sell to pet stores or wholesalers.
We will not sell to anyone living in an area where hedgehogs are illegal. (California, Arizona, Hawaii, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Fairfax County, VA, and the 5 boroughs of New York City.) Before we will sell to anyone living in an area where a permit is required to own and/or import a hedgehog, we require evidence of the necessary permit(s) having been obtained or applied for. (New Jersey, Maine, Wyoming, and two counties in Nebraska require permits.)
We will not sell a hedgehog to anyone under the age of 18. Hedgehogs can make good pets for older children or teens - however, there must be a parent or other adult present at the time of purchase who is willing to be responsible for the animal's care, including veterinary costs.
We will not sell opposite s*x pairs to the same person, or to people within the same household, or to anyone that we believe might allow such a pair to interact (accidentally or otherwise). We recommend two females as the best choice in these cases, because they are more likely to get along and females from the same litter can be housed together.
We will only sell hedgehogs for breeding to established breeders that we have working relationships with.
We have the right to refuse to sell a hedgehog to anyone, at any time, for any reason.
If a deposit or full purchase price has already been provided and the sale is cancelled at the discretion of Goldenheart Hedgehogs, they will be refunded in full.
Pricing:
All our babies are currently $250. Adult are $175. All hedgehogs come with a care sheet, sample food and treats.
Health Guarantee:
All hedgehog babies born at Goldenheart Hedgehogs will come with a 6 month congenital health guarantee. Our guarantee covers medical and physical defects, unless the illness is caused by neglect. All of our babies also come with a lifetime guarantee against Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome (WHS). If your baby should develop WHS, they will be replaced at no charge with a new baby (except shipping charges). I will require a copy of a necropsy report showing positive WHS from a licensed veterinarian of my choice prior to replacing the baby.
Pick up and Visits:
We are happy to allow visits if you want to meet some of our hedgehogs, have questions answered, or need some hands-on experience to decide whether a hedgehog is the right pet for you.
Please contact us to schedule a time to visit.
Please also keep in mind that our hedgehog room may not always be open to visitors. Mother hedgehogs can be very sensitive shortly before and after giving birth, so at certain times the hedgehog room will be off limits because of this. During these times, you will still be able to meet hedgehogs in a different room.
When you pick up your baby, plan on spending 30-45 minutes. This gives enough time to go over proper handling, bathing and nail clipping, and the necessary paperwork.
If for any reason you cannot make it to the scheduled pick-up appointment, please inform us a day in advance to reschedule. If you do not inform us, and do not make it to a scheduled appointment.
Shipping and Delivery:
We currently do not ship but this may change in the future..
