Why is there a shopping cart in the church lobby? 🛒

At first glance, it might seem out of place.

A shopping cart belongs in a grocery store, right?

But here at Medway Church, this cart represents something much bigger. 🤍 🛒

Every Saturday, families walk through the doors of our food pantry, just like they would at a grocery store.

They grab a cart, choose the items their family needs, and leave with dignity—because no one should have to wonder where their next meal is coming from.

Last year alone, we served over 1,000 families, providing more than just food—we shared hope, love, and the reminder that they are not alone.

And that’s where you come in.

This February, we’re collecting 20,000 canned food items to help stock our pantry.

That’s 20,000 ways to say “Jesus loves you.”

Will you help fill this cart and be part of the story?

Skunk Alert!!!
A public service announcement from animal control:
February Through early March is skunk breeding season. Before you let your dogs out, make a little noise and give skunks time to move out of your yard.

If you come face to face with a skunk, stay calm and talk softly to let him know you’re there -- skunks have poor eyesight. Skunks are very sweet natured animals and don’t want to spray you. Go about your business and avoid startling them.
Skunks will give you several warnings if they are scared:
1. They will stomp their front feet
2. They turn their backs to you
3. They will do a handstand
4. They will spray up to 10 feet away

If a skunk DOES spray, here is a technique and recipe:
First, catch the dog (or the person!) as quickly as possible - don’t let them roll or rub on anything. If you have rubber gloves wear them. BLOT the spray off with paper towels.
Mix a paste from 1 teaspoon Dawn dish soap, 3% hydrogen peroxide and ¼ cup baking soda and spread it on the area. Do not add water! Let it sit for ten minutes then rinse off and repeat.
If this happens to be on a human or hairless animal, leave out the baking soda. The baking soda is sort of like an exfoliant and is really abrasive to bare skin.
Skunks are omnivores (eat both plant and animal material). They prefer to eat insects, particularly grasshoppers, beetles, and crickets. They also eat grubs and other insect larvae as well as bees and wasps. When the opportunity arises, they will take mice, rats, moles, shrews, young ground squirrels and rabbits, nesting birds, nestlings, and bird or snake eggs. Skunks also eat corn, berries, and other vegetation. In an urban environment, they may eat garbage or pet food that has been left outside.

Habitat Modification:
Secure garbage cans and close dumpster lids at night.
Control rodent populations.
Do not leave pet food outdoors at night.
Remove brush or wood piles.
Control lawn grubs.

We are excited to introduce you to Moose! 🐾🖤

Not all strays are fortunate enough to cross paths with a staff member from a local animal clinic. But Moose is that guy. And hopefully that's just the beginning of his lucky streak.

In early November Moose was found running loose on a freeway on ramp in Dayton. He and his female companion were caught by a BAC employee and Dr. Bailey was kind enough to let them stay at the clinic while we've campaigned for permanent homes. The pups were spayed and neutered, treated for fleas and ticks, and given all the necessary shots. "Lollipop," (now Olive), has found her home living on a gorgeous farm in Clark County. And now it's Moose's turn to find his family.

Moose is 70 lbs of love and cuddles and is approximately one year old. Dr. B lovingly refers to him as, "An aggressive snuggler." He loves a welcoming lap, but if none is available a comfy couch will do. He is crate and leash trained and house broken. He knows sit, lay down, and "leave it!" He takes a long walk with Dr. Bailey every morning before starting his work day at the clinic. He's a patient boy and waits quietly in his crate while the staff works around him, but in a perfect world he would spend more time with his people than he would cooped up in a crate.

Dr. Bailey is allergic to Moose, as is his other foster mom who's keeps him in Delaware, Ohio periodically. BUt that's a testament to how much they love him. They're both committed to keeping him until we can find him a family.

Of course nobody is perfect. Moose has a pretty high prey drive when it comes to cats. (There are several community cats living behind the clinic and he definitely has a strong urge to chase them.) We have to assume he would have the same drive with any smaller animals, possibly even smaller dogs, so unless an owner has experience with this scenario, we aren't recommending a house with other smaller pets.

Moose has done a meet and greet with one other dog his size, and behaved accordingly. He seems interested in bigger dogs and would love to play. Having a (big) dog sibling or two would do him a lot of good, because he's a little bit lost when it comes to "acting like a dog."

Because of his size and age we're also not recommending a home with small children. He loves to press his entire body up against you when he's demanding affection, and he could easily push someone over if they're not steady. Like any new dog he would benefit from some basic training and more socialization than we're able to give him at the clinic. But he truly has the potential to be the world's most perfect pup.

Update on Lollipop and Moose:
Now that we’ve had these cuties for a little while, we’ve gotten to know them a lot more💕Both are around 1 (we are guessing 😉), fully house trained, crate trained, vaccinated and heartworm flea and tick protected. Both walk well on leash. Either of them would be great for someone looking for a great companion!

Lollipop: She’s ALL love ALL the time! She LOVES everyone! She loves belly rubs and snuggles!

Moose: He has come a long way! We believe he wasn’t housed inside a home and not used to gentle hands 💔❤️‍🩹But just within the short time of being inside & getting attention, he is THE BEST boy!! He walks EXCELLENT on leash. He loves attention. But because of not knowing his past, we would recommend no little children for his home.
Please call Bailey Animal Clinic if interested! We are also looking for families willing to help foster them for the week of Thanksgiving. Please call (937) 864-2227 *leave a message if outside of business hours*
PLEASE SHARE!!! We love these 2 cuties and we want to find them perfect homes!!
