HDTC recently celebrated its 65th YEAR !! --sixty years as a non-profit organization teaching both pet and competition obedience classes and dedicated to improving the relationship between dogs and their owners. The club also provides agility, obedience, rally, conformation, and therapy dog classes; holds annual obedience and agility trials; has member events such as parties and picnics; participa

tes in parades, demonstrations, and local fairs; and is involved in therapy or educational visits to nursing homes, hospices, and schools. Many years ago we taught classes in local school buildings or in the National Guard Armory, holding classes just once a week. HDTC has a large, experienced, volunteer staff of individuals who are all dedicated to providing excellent instruction. All of our instructors not only teach others, but attend training classes and seminars themselves, and train and exhibit their own dogs in obedience, conformation, agility, and other performance events.

Interested in Nose Work [or Scent Work – as it is sometimes called]. We have three (3) openings in Level 2 - Introduction to Odor at Hamilton Dog Training Club.

The class is at @ 9.30 AM [1 hour class] – March 21st to May 2nd. In this class, you start pairing the treats with a special “tin” or container holding a standard scent, in this case, Birch. The scents we use are standardized to the “game” and are essential oils. The other scents commonly used are Anise and Clove and as you get more advanced there are other scents your dog will use. In this level your dog learns that if they find the treat, there is another scent there too. Then eventually they only have to find the scent and the treat comes from the owner as a reward for finding the scent. At this level the owner is learning to read their dog and tell when they are on the source scent or if they are just on the surrounding area. The dog does not get rewarded until they find the actual source.

This class is 6 weeks and costs $135.00

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of longtime Member, Helen O'Donohoe. Helen's family will be holding a private service at their convenience.

Helen was instrumental in the formation of Hamilton Dog Training Club. Helen's passion was training dogs, teaching others how to train their dogs, as well as showing her own dogs.

Helen's dog, Black Chad, was the 1st dog of HDTC to earn the Obedience Trial Champion (OTCH) title! Helen served the club in many ways --- past President and Board Member, Trainer, Behavior Specialist, Registrar --- just to name a few positions.

Helen was always there to offer her support and to share her knowledge.

Her helpful nature will always be remembered.

If you would like to make a memorial donation, a page has been set up on our website --- http://hamiltondogtraining.com/helen-odonohoe-donation-fund.html
