Greetings Hometown Friends,

For over 3 decades, I have been a veterinarian in the Central Maine area. Serving this community at different clinics, with the last 13 + years here at Hometown. Thank you for putting your trust in me as your veterinarian as we navigated your pet’s health concerns and various medical issues together.

After much consideration, I have made the decision to leave Hometown Veterinary Care to pursue other adventures and opportunities. My final day will be 7-1-2024. I will be taking some time off to decompress, relax and enjoy life. I will miss my work colleagues, but especially the animals and their people - with whom I have developed some true friendships over many years.

I trust that the new team at HVC will continue to provide the same level of care and compassion for you and your animals that you deserve.

Sincerely,

Dr. Walsh

It is with sad hearts but well wishes that we say farewell to one of the great ones! We love you so much Dr Walsh!! And we’ll miss you so much!

It’s that time of year again and this week is particularly bad. Please know that while we continue to have people check in from the parking lot IF YOUR VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE AC PLEASE LET US KNOW. We would much rather you wait in the lobby where it’s cool or in an exam room than be uncomfortable/at risk. This goes for pets who tag along to their housemate’s appointment as well. While we do our best, appointments can run longer than anticipated so we’d prefer they come into the building with you if they can’t stay home. ❤️

05/25/2024

Just a reminder we will be closed Monday May 27th for Memorial Day. Wishing everyone a happy and safe holiday weekend 😁

04/30/2024

When our staff isn’t running around the clinic like a bunch of headless chickens they enjoy getting out and showing support for our local community. The last few weekends they could be found participating in the Mud Run held at Thomas College (a new staff favorite event) and at the One in Five 5K in Oakland (which we’ve enjoyed doing for the last several years). What are some upcoming events you’d think we’d enjoy?

04/03/2024

After much discussion we have decided it would be safest for our clients and staff to be CLOSED THURSDAY APRIL 4th given the incoming storm. At this time we ask that you expect a 2 HOUR DELAY regarding when the clinic will be open Friday April 5th to allow everyone time to dig out and arrive safely. We will keep you updated on any changes regarding this post. We appreciate your understanding and encourage you to get any pet supplies you may need today before we close at 5:00. Please stay safe in the coming days. ❤️

04/01/2024

Due to the predicted weather pattern due to hit us Wednesday over night into Thursday please be prepared for a closure or reduced hours on Thursday. If you would like to call and reschedule in advance please feel free. Be safe!

Up next we have another familiar face (or voice) for many of you. Having been with the HVC family for many years, Angela is one of the kindest and most genuine people you could have the pleasure of speaking with. She is yet another piece of the glue that holds the clinic together. Be sure to say hello!ďżź

Angela was raised in central Michigan & upstate New York. She moved to Maine with her family in 2004. Angela has four children and 2 grandchildren. She currently lives in Fairfield with her husband, Phil, their Boston Terrier, Ashe and their four cats, Fergus, Bek, Mango & Harley. Because of her love for animals, Angela started in the veterinary field as a receptionist back in 2004. She has been the office manager at HVC since opening in 2011. Outside of work, Angela enjoys spending time with family & friends, traveling, crafting and photography

At one time today’s featured staff member could have been found at the south bound end of a north bound cow! Today we’d like to acknowledge Nicole. Aside from her infectious personality, incredible skill set and huge heart she’s also a remarkable and strong person. It is our pleasure to have her on our team!

Nicole was born and raised right here in Fairfield. She currently resides with her amazing daughter Natalie, fiancé Matthew, and their two very friendly cats Oliver and Phoenix. As a child she always felt that she had a special connection with animals. Nicole started working at a dog boarding facility as a freshmen in high-school and continued working there until she graduated, eventually going on to complete a real estate course at a local college. She soon realized that her heart was not in it and found herself back in the animal world. In 2009, Nicole started at a veterinary practice in Oakland before moving to HVC in 2011. As many of you know, in 2015 she had to leave HVC for a few years to care for her daughter, Natalie, full time after a cancer diagnosis. She is very thankful for everyone’s support through that difficult time. As soon as she was able to return, Nicole was back to work at HVC. Nicole is a bit of a social butterfly: whether that means comforting you during a difficult time or being a comedian to turn your day around, she is up to the task. She spends most of her free time with her family, watching movies, cooking dinner, playing video games, doing home projects, taking rides to the coast, or trying new restaurants. Her goal is to always keep learning, laughing, and smiling; and to never forget that kindness truly goes a long way.

Next up we have Brandie! Expert moose caller, licensed veterinary technician, receptionist, and most recently our newly appointed triage person. Brandie also happens to offer the best hugs in town! Needless to say yet another one of Hometown’s invaluable staff members!

Brandie grew up in the Moose River Valley of Maine and has always had a passion for animals. Though always a pet owner (to a variety of creatures), she did not start working with animals until moving to Las Vegas. There she was operations manager, or pack leader, of a free range style doggy daycare, and also, a kennel attendant at one of the largest animal shelters in the United States. Eventually, she obtained her degree and became a Licensed Veterinary Technician. Brandie worked as an LVT in a large, multi faceted animal hospital in Las Vegas. When Brandie moved back to Maine, she found the fast paced, fun, and caring environment of HVC a perfect fit when she joined the team in 2019. She lives in Fairfield, with her husband, their son, one dog and two cats. In her off time, Brandie enjoys cooking, baking, flower gardening, New England & Las Vegas Sports, and spending time with her family and friends.

Today’s featured staff member is Diane #2! Many of you have likely already had an opportunity to speak with her on the phone but for those of you that havn’t be sure to say hello!

My name is Diane Wheeler. I'm a wife, mom, grandmother, farmer and retired RN. We moved here from NJ 28 years ago so we could have a farm. We currently have chickens, sheep, horses, donkeys and peacocks. I also have two dogs that I compete in agilty and FastCAT with. I enjoy raising my own food and cooking for family and friends. I've always loved animals and started working part time in veterinary care 2 years ago. I love being able to help animals and their people. It's very satisfying to be in a different branch of the medical field and feel like I can really help make a difference in pet's lives.

Today’s staff member of the day is Diane. If you’re worried you’ll have a hard time recognizing her without Mr. Chucky keeping her neck warm, not to worry! You can count on Diane to have the coolest hair styles (and colors) and come October she goes into full spooky season mode so don’t be surprised if she-dracula pops in to get you all checked in! Be sure to say hello!

Diane has been a licensed veterinary technician for nearly 34 years, with the majority of those years having worked in her hometown of Skowhegan, but welcomes her new beginnings at Hometown Veterinary Care. In the veterinary field Diane enjoys the many hats a technician can wear, but surgery, dentals, lab, and client interactions are her favorites.
Diane considers herself to be a social butterfly and enjoys friends, family, and meeting new people as much as possible. She has been an active member of the Skowhegan Lion's Club since 1996, acted at Lakewood Theater in many productions, and has been involved in many community activities over the years. Currently her favorite activity is camping in Eustis with her husband Roger, her boxer dog Sophie and her 2 Persian cats - Norman B and Chucky Lee. She also has special interests and enjoys focusing on natural wellness by using essential oils for herself, pets, and family.

Today’s featured staff member is Beth. As one of the founding staff members, I’m sure many of you have crossed paths with her. Be sure to say hello when you see her in the rooms!

Beth is a Maine native who currently resides in Sidney with her two daughters, one dog and four cats. An animal lover since childhood Beth started her animal care career at the Franklin County Animal Shelter in college. After a few years there she joined the veterinary world in 2005 and has been at HVC since it opened in 2011. She has been “mom” or “foster mom” to a variety of animals over the years including cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils, lizards, turtles, tree frogs and (her biggest obsession) chickens. In her spare time Beth enjoys reading, sewing, family time and being outside. Future goals include getting her tech license, a small hobby farm and chickens. Always more chickens :)

Today’s featured staff member should be a familiar face to many of our diabetic pet parents. Rhonda comes to us with MANY years of experience and a special knack for diabetic management and education. Everyone met Rhonda!

Hi. I'm Rhonda. I have wanted to work in Vet Med since I was 7. I grew up on a farm in Palmyra, and rode and showed horses. I Graduated UMO in 1993, and have been a licensed technician since. I practiced in Maine until 2000, then moved to Missouri where I practiced until 2016, when I moved home. I have a special interest in diabetic management, and have been certified as a veterinary diabetic counselor for 5 years. I have 3 kids and 2 grandchildren. I have 3 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, and a Himalayan mix kitten. I enjoy doing agility with my dog Demi, as well as needle point, ice fishing, kayaking, and playing with my grandbabies.
I look forward to helping you with your fur babies in the future.

First up we have Melissa! Hopefully a familiar face to many of you, Melissa is an indispensable member of the team and our very own crazy cat lady! Be sure to say hello when you see her!

Melissa was born and raised in the great State of Maine. She currently lives in Benton, and feels very blessed in her life with a wonderful family which includes her husband Dennis, daughter Alexis, son Tristan, grandson Emmett, and 6 cats- Aris, Letty, Finn, Gronk, Arthur, and Bojangles. Her love for animals started when she was young and it paved the way for her career in caring for animals all shapes and sizes. She spent the early part of her professional journey working in animal welfare for 7 years and an additional 8 years with a high-volume spay and neuter clinic. Then in June of 2022 she joined the Hometown Veterinary Care Family. Her primary work interests include all aspects of veterinary medicine, especially building relationships with our clients and fur-babies. When she is not at work, she loves spending time with family and friends. She enjoys cycling, working out at the gym, listening to music, and watching New England sports, and Arsenal football with her husband. GO Gunners!

Hello Hometown Veterinary Care Pet Parents,

Our thanks for your compassionate understanding as we have been navigating unexpected interruptions to our regular services and schedules. We know the storm impact of last week was trying for our community at large and we hope you are finding yourselves able to bounce back. We appreciate your patience as we work through appropriate rescheduling.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we do have days this week with limitations. We want to be certain that everyone has pathways to care from our colleagues elsewhere during this time.

December 26th and 27th we will be open during regular business hours though will be without a veterinarian. Our team of highly skilled Licensed Veterinary Technicians will be available for prescheduled services such as nail trims, routine bloodwork collection, a**l gland expression and suture removal.

December 28th we will be closed to perform our year-end inventory.

December 29th we have very limited services that have been scheduled in advance and will not be able to accommodate additional patient services.

The following resources are available to you for urgent care. We do advise that you call ahead even though urgent and emergency facilities do not operate an appointment schedule. The volume of need can be unpredictable and calling ahead will help you have a more informed experience for your circumstance.

Hometown Family,
We are happy to announce that the clinic will be OPEN TOMORROW (THURSDAY December 21st).

ANYONE WITH A PET SCHEDULED FOR SURGERY TOMORROW: please withhold food after midnight tonight, a little water in the morning is ok but nothing substantial. Please drop your pet off between 7:30-8 but know that there may be a small wait as we typically try to stagger arrival times when we do our confirmation calls and we were not able to do that this time.

ANYONE WITH A PET SCHEDULED FOR AN APPOINTMENT TOMORROW: we ask for your continued patience and understanding as we get things back up and running. We know that the last few days have been extremely stressful for everyone in our community (and beyond), but we’re asking for patience and kindness as we anticipate a hectic day tomorrow. Our staff will be working incredibly hard to keep our day (and yours) on track as best they can.

See you soon ❤️

12/19/2023

Hometown Family,
We wanted to update you as we slowly begin to get power back. As of right now, power has, at least temporarily, been restored. However, with internet systems still down the clinic will closed as essential systems such as phones, billing systems, and medical record access are greatly restricted or unavailable. We hope that we'll be back up and running tomorrow, but as of right now we are treating everything as though we will not be open.

Please, if you have an appointment scheduled with us tomorrow, check back here tomorrow morning before leaving your home. We will update our Facebook and send out a text notification immediately once we get our systems back.

Unfortunately our phones are reliant on both electricity and internet to function and since we only have 1 of the 2, we may not be available to answer calls until systems are restored. We apologize that this may cause some confusion. For now, the most up-to-date information will be found here and via our messaging/email service remotely.

***If your pet has an emergency this evening, the Eastern Maine Emergency Veterinary Clinic is also without power and will not be open tonight. Please seek care at urgent or emergency clinics south of us at Maine Veterinary Medical Center or PetMedic Urgent Vet Care Clinic - Freeport or PetMedic Urgent Care Vet Clinic - Portland.

Since these wind storms and outages seem to be happening more frequently, we will be taking steps to put a system in place to power the clinic and access records and billing during an outage, so we have the ability to stay open.

Please remember to have patience with our staff once we do reopen as we will have a lot of appointments to reschedule, emails to filter through, and requests to take care of. We will do the very best we can.

Everyone stay safe out there and we hope to be back up and running as soon as possible!

12/19/2023

Unfortunately the clinic will be closed today. We apologize for the inconvenience and we hope you are all staying safe ❤️

12/18/2023

We are closing due to no power at the clinic. Please stay safe everyone.
