I do not raise dogs for the money, if anything my husband would be the first to say they can be a drain on our finances. 😂
However I do raise them:
1) To allow others to experience the unconditional love the Bernese breed oozes.
2) To help continue a breed that has an intimidating presence that will provide protection to your wife and children when they are home alone.
3) To share a breed that is so gentle that your baby can lay next to their pup while watching tv and you don’t have to worry about that pup being too rough.
4) To provide an animal that could easily become the therapy dog your family member might be searching for.
5) To provide comedy relief when the winter becomes dreary.(just watch the goofballs play in snow AND try bringing them inside when they don’t want to!)
6)To try and help produce healthy, structurally sound specimens of the breed, therefore helping to better the breed.(and sometimes having to admit ones I love do not make the cut😢)
7) And the list goes on, and on!
I do not raise these magnificent creatures to make money. There are financial expenditures for whelping supplies, high quality kibble, probiotics for good gut health, quality fresh treats, vaccines, deworming, emergency vet visits, routine vet visits, medications, bedding, puppy training supplies, cleaning supplies, registration fees, genetic and health testing costs, quality indoor kennel facilities, fuel for traveling to deliver, pick up, or transport animals to appointments, continuing education on animal health care, training costs, toys, leashes and collars, microchips, and so much more!!! The “high price” for our pups doesn’t always cover what we put into raising them, but I will choose to do it again and again. I love this breed and am forever grateful for the joy AND frustrations they have brought me!
