Welcome Dr. Mello!

Dr. Mello grew up on the South Shore of Massachusetts and has always felt a connection with animals. She was lucky to attend Norfolk County Agricultural High School, where part of her time was spent out of the classroom working with the animals on campus. She had the opportunity to participate in a veterinary and research internship during that time, which sparked her passion for veterinary medicine and biomedical research. After high school, she attended SUNY Canton, where she obtained her B.S. in Veterinary Science Technology and became a licensed veterinary technologist (LVT). During her time as an emergency and anesthesia LVT, Dr. Mello got an incredible amount of satisfaction from helping people and their pets during the times they really needed it - in the emergency room. After some time working in emergency, she realized she missed catching up with and getting to know the clients and pets she interacted with, so she decided to give primary care a try!

Dr. Mello received her DVM degree from Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. She enjoys many aspects of medicine and likes a variety of cases (perfect for primary care)! A few of her favorites are internal medicine, cardiology, urgent care, and surgery. She really values her patients' comfort during her appointments, and she is an Elite Fear Free Certified Professional.

When she isn't working, Dr. Mello can be found hiking with her dog, Spookey, kayaking, at the beach, camping, traveling, or watching some of her favorite TV shows.

The human animal bond is incredibly important to Dr. Mello, and she can't wait to provide a space where clients and their pets can receive compassionate, quality veterinary care.

Dr. Mello will be mentored by Dr. Sherman over the next few weeks.

Welcome Dr. Finato!

Dr. Finato was born and raised in Brazil. She has always loved and respected animals since childhood. She came from a family of Collie breeders. As a child, she enjoyed accompanying her mother to dog shows to compete with the Collies in the Brazil Kennel Club competitions.

She attended veterinary school in Brazil and graduated in 2015. She moved to Massachusetts in 2016 and went through a long process to validate the diploma in the USA.

She lives with her husband and two babies that sure keep her busy.

She enjoys walks on the beach, going to the zoo, movies, family time, and traveling.

She considers herself very fortunate to be able to help keep animals healthy and happy.

One of the local ER and specialty hospitals in the area is changing locations to a bigger, state of the art facility in Swansea.

It is finally happening!

Bay State Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Services is in the process of moving into our new premier hospital. We plan on accepting patients at the new Bay State Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Services starting Wednesday, July 24th at 1:30 PM.

We take pride in being able to care for the most critical and complex cases. Our new hospital will provide more space, advanced technology, and resources for our team, patients, and clients.

We believe that there’s always something positive to celebrate, and today we celebrate Veterinary Assistant Victoria’s birthday! Victoria is absolutely obsessed with dogs, but in the best way possible! She has two little furry ones at home now, and one is a tripod that she and her husband recently adopted.

She’s a self-proclaimed lover of “grandmotherly activities” as she jokingly says. Her hobbies include crocheting and knitting, and of course, smothering all the dogs with love.

The Capeway Family was honored to celebrate the careers of Dr. Philip R. Gaudet and Dr. Ted D. Sherman last night at Traveler’s Ale House. Chair Stasia Powers and Vice Chair Charles Murphy, Sr. of The Town of Fairhaven Select Board were on hand to deliver Certificates of Recognition for the Docs’ 4 decades of service to The Town. Officer Jillian Jodoin and K9 Blue of the Fairhaven Police Department also provided plaques and swag to recognize them. Speeches were given, tears were shed, and laughs were had. It has been an amazing journey, or as we say, “Phil and Ted’s Excellent Adventure”. Dr. Jayaram said it best - now Dr. Gaudet can relax with a novel in a cabin in the woods and Dr. Sherman can boat off into the sunset with a cosmo in hand.

Donut you know, having surgery is ruff! Bailey wants to remind everyone of the importance of preventing your pet from being able to lick or chew at their surgical site, which may open the incision and/or cause infection. Bailey’s fashionable inflatable collar not only does that, but it also comes in handy for a quick flotation device for potato dogs like herself. We love you Bailey and wish you a speedy recovery!

Dr. Jayaram joined Dr. Gaudet and Dr. Sherman as an associate veterinarian of Capeway Veterinary Hospital on this day back in 1997 (she was obviously an infant as she’s only 27 years old herself 😂). She is now our VCA medical director. She says she loves being a veterinarian and can’t imagine being anything else.

Dr. Jay (as she’s affectionately called) hails from Canada. She enjoys traveling the world and getting out and being active, especially with her two dogs, Marvin the golden doodle, and Raina the Golden Retriever.

Yesterday marked Amaya’s 1-year work anniversary! Amaya joined us as a client service representative, but she quickly trained to also work as a technician assistant when needed.

Amaya loves animals and always wants to give our patients lots of love and treats. She has her own fur baby at home named Bella. She loves working with animals and can’t see herself doing anything else!

She’s a little sassy and a whole lot of fun. Melissa always tries to go the extra mile to help clients when she can. She loves Shih-Tzus, the beach, and her family. We are fortunate to have her on our team!

Meet Daniel, our evening/weekend Technician Supervisor!

Dan grew up in The Bronx, NY. He attended university in Brazil and holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Veterinary Medicine. He’s registered as a veterinarian there and is currently working on his credentials to become a licensed veterinarian here in the U.S. He also happens to be married to a veterinarian (who will be joining our team soon!) and they share two beautiful little boys.

Besides his 6 years in veterinary medicine, Dan enjoys sports, photography, computers, and creating art. We are very happy to be working alongside him!

Today we wish Britney a happy 4-year work anniversary! Britney assists in surgery, treatments, and exams. She holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Veterinary Technology from UMass Amherst and is experienced in veterinary emergency medicine.

Britney absolutely adores her Pittie named Violet and her kitty named Truffle. When she’s not taking Violet out on an adventure, she’s home curled up reading with Truffle.
