A SMALL ETSY BUSINESS OWNERS LAST WORDS FOR 2024 Running a small business isnā€™t easy. I started this business in 2011 after being unemployed for over a year. I started MB with 53 dollars, the support of my fiancĆ© , and the sewing skills I learned as a student at FIDM. Etsy in 2011 wasnā€™t a household name and the dog collar/accessories market wasnā€™t yet saturated. It took me a month to sell a collar not bought by a family or friend (the first one was bought by my mom šŸ˜†) and it took a year to sell 10. My business has struggled and strived and struggled again. Everyone always tells me they want to start a Etsy business but what they donā€™t realize is how much work it takes to get your products to be seen by potential customers. Drop shipping so-called -small businesses is the death of real small handmade businesses. Etsy is a pain to sell on especially when it went public but itā€™s been the only place I can get customers who understand what made-to-order-personalized means. I had dreams to grow big and sell my products in boutiques around the world but unfortunately I hit too many bumps on the road (personal and business) and never reached those heights. I donā€™t regret staying small though. I realized I like being small. I have done of the best loyal customers. I love it when they send me cards with pictures of their furbabies. One customer even saved my business by giving me a replacement laser engraver when mine gave out and became too costly to repair ā¤ļø They are the reason I keep sewing and keep my head up. To 2025 I march on

Mutts-n-Bones is my obsession. It is a combination of two things I love: Dogs and Fashion. When I adopted Chanel in 2007 it was difficult to find cute fancy dog collars that weren't overpriced. Using my background in apparel design, I decided to make her a new dog collar myself. What started as a hobby became my etsy business in 2011. We have since expanded to include harnesses, leashes, and cat collars.
