Why it costs "so much" to get your dog groomed:
Grooming table: $300-$1500 (depending on size/hydraulics)
Tub: $200-$1200 (depending on size)
Dryer: $200-$500 (depending on power)
Clippers: $200-$300
Scissors: $50-$100 per pair ($10 to sharpen one pair, needs to be done on average every 3 months).
Blades: $40-$55 per blade ($7.50 to sharpen one blade, needs to be done on average every 3 months).
Shampoos/Conditioners: $10-$20 per bottle, $40-$100 per jug
Guard combs: $35
Brushes/combs: $10-$50 per brush/comb
Not to mention the cost of:
Ear cleaners/powder, quik stop, cotton balls, disinfectants, tooth brushes/paste, bows/bandanas, sprays and other miscellaneous items we use for each groom.
Not to mention the cost of massage therapists and chiropractors to maintain our physical health from the damage grooming does to us from bending, crouching, lifting and sc******ng all day everyday.
Not to mention the mental exhaustion that comes with giving a dog that never wants to sit still a haircut. Or the pain from being bitten, kicked and fought tooth and nail on the table.
And not to mention, the hard work and effort we put in to grooming a difficult dog the best that we can, only to be told by the owners that it is our fault the dog was matted or that it could not be groomed. And how dare someone so "uneducated with no degree in anything" argue a doctor on that?
Groomers certainly do not do this job because it is an "easy" or "fun" way to make money. We do not groom as a cop out to getting a "real education" or a "real job".
Grooming IS a real job
Groomers are animal owners and animal lovers that have dedicated themselves to making other people's babies feel better because grooming is such an important part of every dogs health.
So please, next time your dogs haircut isn't perfect, cut your groomer some slack. Our babies are amazing at home but sometimes they're scared and act different at the groomer.
Maybe your dog bit them or maybe your dog wouldn't sit still. Maybe your dog was matted and they did the best they could to leave it longer for you without hurting your dog in the process.
Just because we don't have a degree does not mean that we are uneducated or do not know what we're doing! Learning to groom is a long process and a skill that continues to build during our entire career as groomers.
We groom because we love your babies like they are our own. β€οΈπΎπ©
