This year I was so lucky to be able to learn from so many amazing horsemen.

I got to lesson with Nahshon Cook Horsemanship Tik Maynard and Luke Reinbold Horsemanship LLC over the summer with different horses and goals. Every single person gave me fresh ideas to bring home to my horses and clients.

Amongst the great clinicians, my weekly lessons with Chad Basile Dressage have held me accountable to always bettering myself. I'm forever grateful to have such a wonderful friend and coach in my life who cheers me on in the toughest periods and celebrates when we finally get it right.

Ending 2024 and starting 2025 by sending a deposit to ride with Amy Skinner Horsemanship in August is fitting after a year of growth and hard work. Looking forward to another successful year of more of the same.

A few weeks ago while working with my latest project I started thinking to myself, how did I end up on this path? So many misguided, last chance type of horses tend to find me. Looking back at these pics reminded me that it's always been the case. It probably started because I was a poor horse kid, who rode anything I could get my hands on.... but when you don't come from money that's how you have to "make it" in the equine world. Every horse has taught me something new, that I can bring to the next one and I wouldn't trade that for anything.

Left side top 3 are of Vegas and I. Misunderstood at first but we accomplished so much together. My first real heart horse.

Bottom left is at Paul Hill Stables, where it all started on trusty old Coquette 💙

Right side top 2 are Dusty. The one that started it all, the 17hh orphan. Looking back I'm not sure my trainer at the time actually liked me connecting me to him. Could only ride if you could get his bridle on that day, had a terrible rearing issue on the ground and under saddle.... but that horse was incredible. The top photo is us showing in the hacks at the NWNY at age 15 against mostly professionals. He didn't trot, he just floated.

3rd down is me and Woody, pulled out of a pasture knee deep in mud and severely underweight.

Last was my first love, Dakota 🥰

Kate and Justin's first show going for ribbons together! Justin is putting his confidence to great use and seems to truly enjoy showing now 😊

Relaxed, confident and lovely tests from everyone. You can't ask for much more than that!

BSF had an incredible weekend at Otter Creek. Its such a magical place for horses and people alike 🥰

First time visit for a few humans as well as Foxy and Hope. Its such a great feeling to see the beauty of the world from in-between your favorite set of ears ❤️

Team Black Smoke had a fantastic outing at Houghton University this weekend!

Val piloted Hope around her first show ever. It was a bit of a last minute switch but with Hopes go with the flow mindset it was no problem at all. We brought home awesome scores of 69.3 and 70.94 for a 2nd place sweep, only behind our own Bustin Bieber!

Erin and Justin had their first show together and absolutely nailed it with scores of 72, 74 and 69.7. They even secured senior high score for the show 😄

The last 2 days I have had people show up to the farm unannounced then proceed to walk or drive into the barn area. NO ONE is welcome to show up unscheduled for pick ups or drop offs for the safety of the animals and people who call this place home.

Does anyone want to claim the pile of blankets that was left on my wash rack today not in bags, without an intake form or labels?

Blanket customers, I'm hoping to have all wash/waterproofs done by the end of next week! I've had a summer plagued with broken machines that have set me behind so I appreciate the patience! Be on the look out for invoices.

Today wrapped up our first WDAA series ever! We ended on 2 personal best scores and missed the blue ribbon by a point. I'm so proud of Aspen in her first season showing, she held her own against some incredible pairs!

2 years ago I purchased my first western saddle and a year ago I started riding in it regularly. I started looking into western dressage as an option for Aspen because it allows us to compete bitless and it focuses on partnership. Aspen is my soul horse and I wanted to find something we both enjoyed that gave us goals that fit into our mindset. Today we received 8s for our Harmony collective marks on both tests, that alone made my year. It's so special starting and developing your own horse 🥰

I have not regularly competed in years because I felt burnt out on the typical show experience. However the Western Dressage of Twin Tiers Classic Horse Show Series gave me back a little piece of my soul, I have not had this much fun showing in my whole life! Impeccably well run, fantastic venue, friendly helpful staff/competitors, qualified judges and ridiculously reasonably priced. I can't wait to bring another horse or 2 with students next year!!
