I haven’t bragged on Crow The Cattle Dog in awhile. (ZZxRose). I am so proud of her and her owner and all the things they accomplish.
I’m going to quote her owner Michael’s post from last week: “Today in Gulfport, crowthecattledog earned her FCAT5 title in Fast CAT. She loves to chase the bunnies (it’s really a white trash bag!). She didn’t run that fast this weekend, her first run yesterday was about 7.5 seconds for 100 yards which is her norm, the rest of the weekend she ran around 8 seconds. I love that little dog to the moon and back. When they say “heart dog” that is definitely my little shadow Crow.”

Maybe it’s because I’m old school but I think this new trend of asking random strangers on the internet to critique and review breeders is weird. I personally think if you have questions about a breeder’s program, you should first ask the breeder. Email them. Call them. Have a conversation. If they don’t answer your questions to your satisfaction, then move on to another breeder. 🤷🏻‍♀️ this is Goose from ZZ & Grace.

Keep your pets safe on Halloween. Costumes and accessories may be BOO-tiful, but make sure pets aren't uncomfortable or overly interested in things that can become a choking hazard. Be extra careful around lit pumpkins, as they can be tipped over and even if your pets are staying indoors, keep ID's on them in case they get out. Stash the Human Treats, especially the chocolate and sugar-free candy as they can contain Xylitol. And, keep your pet occupied with a healthy chew or favorite toy. Be safe.

If you are thinking about living with a Cattle Dog, you must first consider what you will be doing with your Cattle Dog. The people [who are] happiest living with ACDs are active in mind and body. Whether it’s being a co-conspirator on a trail ride, moving sheep, rounding up those bovine bunch quitters, training for a fun run, flyball, obedience or herding trials, SAR or tracking, the answer is always, “YES, please!"🐾

“Most of what we produce just go to pet homes….”

Why does a purebred puppy from a reputable club breeder cost so much?

1. Health Testing on Sire and Dam
2. Routine Veterinary Care
3. Breeding Costs. Progesterone Testing, Stud Fees, Brucellosis Testing, Travel to and from. TCI, Frozen Semen, Chilled Semen, Shipped Semen
4. Quality Puppy Food and Supplements
5. Whelping Supplies (boxes, pens, toys, expendables, supplements, other containment)
6. Vet Checks for Puppies, Vaccines, Dewormers, Microchips
7. AKC registration and Microchip Registration
8. My time. It takes about a week of my time arranging the breeding and to raise the puppies until 8 weeks that is a minimum of 1500 hours of work and effort.
9. Puppy kits, printed materials, and health information.
10. My time spent educating owners and continuing to give advice for the life of the dog.

I won’t include the club memberships, championships, travel to shows, advertising, hundreds of hours of time spent promoting purebred dogs. I won’t include missed vacations, sleepless nights, very high repro vet bills, missed breedings, c sections, singletons, or bad luck. All expensive and we do it for no other reason than to preserve our breeds.

If I hear another person say they are just looking for a pet and not a showdog then my advice to them is go ahead and buy a car with no warranty, no manual, no VIN or registration and the odometer is broken. Good luck with that. I hope you have a good trainer and good insurance. Most of what we produce are just pets. Loved cherished companions that go to carefully screened homes. it is only the exceptional ones we breed. That therein lies the difference.
