In 2009 we began our adventure into the world of elk ranching with our 230 acre hunting preserve in Gilman, WI. The majesty of the elk, red deer, and white tail deer had us hooked. After a few years of guiding hunts we felt we needed to create our own reliable source for animals. In 2012 we started our breeding facility with our first 2 year old cow LuLu. That year we added 6 more cows and a breed

er bull, Thor. We then began our venture into the retail sale of elk meat and products. Our goal is to provide high quality, drug/hormone free, healthy meat that tastes great too. In 2014 we completed construction of our handling facility and hay/feed storage barn. Today we have 26 breeder cows including our prize white cow, Sugar. We have several breeder bulls including Nugget and Sunray with multiple young bulls with top quality genetic backgrounds. Our genetics come from some of the highest quality backgrounds in the United States and Canada including X-Ray, Korean Gold, Bucci, Undeniable, Imperious, and Garmadon.

It's not all fun and games. One of my big breeder bulls busted the tip off his main beam a few days ago. I've been keeping a close eye looking for signs of potential infection. Well today I saw lots of flies on the dangling piece so decided to not risk his health and clean it up. Everything went well and looks good. 10 minutes after reversing him he was in grazing with his buddies.

Moved some of the big boys into fresh pasture yesterday. One of our renovated pastures we burned down last fall and planted orchard grass and then put Sunn-hemp in earlier this summer. They’re fat and happy! Best of all no fescue!

These two decided to have a boxing match! It lasted for awhile with Yeti coming out the winner!!🥊🥊

HHT Myles is not gonna disappoint again this year. We built this bull using one of our best cow lines from Clearstone genetics and Russell Gwozdz great bull Imperious. He is Gold NAEBA registered and coming 6. We’ve used him for our main and/or backup bull for 3 years so thinking it might be time to find him new pastures to roam.
* 2nd place typical 4 yr old at 2023 antler competition- 100% typical.
* unofficial 5yr score 462” mostly typical; to be entered in 2024 competition.
* His 4ths at 4yr (26 3/8; 26 2/8) and 5yr (30 1/8; 26 1/8) are longer than ANY bull in the competition going back several years.
* His beams at 5yr (54; 53 5/8) are longer than ANY bull in the competition going back several years.
* This bull has great demeanor; he protects his girls but never a jerk even during the rut.
* Phenomenal breeder. He breed’s everything; I think he can breed cows two pens over just by looking at them.
* AND, if all that is not enough, he is LM Codon 132!!

NEW PRODUCT DEBUT! Tomorrow 4/20/24 at the Farmers Market of the Ozarks in Springfield MO we will be introducing our new dietary supplement for pets - powdered elk antler. This is 100% elk antler from our farm. Loaded with healthy vitamins and minerals for your pet. Over the years we’ve had customers unwilling to risk whole antler for their pets that had dental issues. Now everyone’s furry friends can benefit from the nutritional properties of antler. Also great to stimulate eating in those finicky pets that never seem interested in their kibble. Just shake some over their food and your pet will be grateful! Supplies are limited but we still have our whole and split antlers if you prefer.

I got the heifers vaccinated and moved in to their calving pasture. This pasture is one we renovated last fall to eliminate the fescue. 2 more groups of cows and last years calves to do yet.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from our farm to you! Wishing all our friends, family, customers, and followers God's blessings this holiday season.

The only thing harder than getting your kids to cooperate for Christmas photos is your dog and elk! 🤣

We will be at Farmers Market of the Ozarks in Springfield MO Saturday 12/9 and 12/23. We still have lots of products for gifts. Shipping is available if you're not in the Missouri area. As we normally do, we will take off from market in Jan. and Feb. However, this year we plan to take orders for delivery to Springfield on select days this winter. If you are interested in being on our contact list please send us a PM and we'll be in touch with our winter delivery schedule.

Thanks again to everyone for all your support,
Rick and Kathy Ewert, Gunnar, and our 80 elk!

It's shop small Saturday at the Farmers Market of the Ozarks in Springfield MO. We have some great gift ideas including a bunch of shelf stable elk products that don't need refrigerating. And don't forget your puppy on Christmas. They love the antler dog chews.

DAY 6: We are done! Got the last 2 groups of cows dewormed and the last 6 calves weened. All the cows are in their breeding pens and all 18 calves are in the calf pen. Lots of noise on the farm now. Things will be a little less chaotic for a couple months until we pull the breeder bulls out. Hope all our friends and followers enjoy this little glimpse into elk farming over the past week.

DAY 5: we finished cutting a few of the bigger 3's and a 4yr breeder we won't be using this year. The 3yr scored 404" and the 4yr 447". All the cutting is done for now. Thanks to good friends and neighbors Brad and Vicki Waterworth for helping. It went very smooth this year; no casualties (bulls or people). We kept the antlers on the 3 breeders we are using this year. Normally we wouldn't do that but we have a large tour group coming thru in October so felt it would be more interesting to see. Hopefully we won't regret that decision. I darted and scored the breeder bulls. The big boy Myles scored 450"! This year he has a little bit of nontypical going on so we'll have to put him in the nontypical class in next years NAEBA International antler competition. One more day and "hell week" should be in the books!

DAY 4: The day we wait all year for. Shipping trophy bulls. It's a very nerve-wracking process that is very dangerous to us and the animals. Thanks to Adam Griffin for the help. We got all 7 bulls on 2 trailer loads with no one getting injured or killed; including the bulls. They're off to their new home in Oklahoma. Also got a few more cows treated and in their breeding pens. Starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

DAY 3: Got the pen of white cows treated and calves weened off and to the calf pasture. Also managed to cut a few more 3yr olds. One tried to kill me. Then we got one of the breeder bulls in with a group of the ladies. He instantly went in to rutting mode. I'll post a few interesting videos in the comments; FB won't seem to let me put pics and videos together. Stay tuned!!

DAY 2: got our bottle babies Rush and Andre walked down to the calf pasture. Cut antlers off the 2yr old bulls and a few of the 3's. It was a bit of a cluster because they were going back into some different pens. Put a 2yr old bull with awesome genetics in with our heifers. Then got one of the cow pens ran through and got their calves weened off and in to the calf pasture. ...more to come.

It's that crazy time of year. This week we will be deworming the entire herd, shipping out the trophy bulls, cutting antlers on all the remaining bulls, weening calves, and sorting cows and the breeder bulls in to their breeding pens. If we survive things will get a bit easier going in to fall.

DAY 1: we got the yearling heifers dewormed and moved in to their breeding pen. Spikers got dewormed too and all cut off.
