The recent Equine Herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) outbreak has us all worried, especially since there have been a couple cases here in Washington state. EHV-1 cases continue to spread across the country. According to the Equine Disease Communication Center, the latest outbreak has been tied to major equine events earlier this month in Texas. Veterinary experts warn that this strain has behaved aggressively, prompting several large shows across the country to postpone, cancel or restrict activities.

Although not widespread in our area, Friends of Fall City Arena encourages everyone to be educated, attentive, and diligent to make sure it stays that way. Read through this post and follow the suggestions of veterinarians and the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA).

Grab your pony and your jingle bells—it’s time to ride! 🎅🐴

Come join your horse neighbors on Sunday, December 21 for a magical holiday horseback ride through downtown Fall City. Dress up, decorate, and share the spirit of the season. Singing along is optional, but highly recommended! 🎶✨

Ride out from the Fall City Arena at 11 a.m. Trailer parking and staging available in the arena parking lot. Note: Fall City does not have sidewalks but is relatively low traffic and equine friendly.

Come join our arena maintenance team and keep Fall City Arena in tip-top shape. You’ll be part of a volunteer team that wants to make free public riding spaces safe and available to horse owners throughout the area. You will help monitor grooming and watering needs, work with King County Parks to address maintenance issues, help with dust abatement, and join work parties to keep the arena and track w**d free and clean. It’s a great way to get community service hours for school, church or work. You can schedule a time or be on call. To express interest in helping out visit: fallcityarena.org/volunteer

WHAT’S A PEGASUS CROSSING?

Join us at the Fall City Community Association meeting this coming Tuesday, Oct. 7th at 7pm at the Fall City Fire Dept. Community Room as we share plans for a "pegasus crossing”, across SR-203, between the Fall City Arena and the Snoqualmie Valley Trail.

A pegasus crossing is a metered stop light crosswalk designed to be activated while mounted. It has holding areas for a few mounted riders on each end.

The current speed signs, stripes painted on the road, and horse crossing signs are totally inadequate. Motorists regularly speed through the crossing and, coming from the north, horse riders cannot be seen as close as 100 feet away!

So please come join us at the meeting and show your support for equine activities here in the Valley. We need to show community and government leaders that Valley horse people care and are demanding this dangerous crossing get the improvements that will prevent serious accidents.
