Introducing Barbados, the newest island to the herd. He was born to Brandy our first time mama in a very quick and effortless kidding. Both are doing great and are soaking up all the extra attention they are getting. This was the last of our spring kiddings with the next ones starting in August.

You’re supposed to marry your best friend because that’s the person that will put up with your crap and still love you unconditionally. You can disagree and get in a fight with your best friend and they aren’t going to run. You get to be adventurous with them, you hold each other up when going through trials or failures and you celebrate your successes together. You learn to not be selfish and you have to make sacrifices. Your spouse should be your person you run to for all the good things and all the bad things. They should know all your dreams and all your fears, and they should be the person that brings you the most comfort. You basically should marry a golden retriever.

Mai Tai’s kids have been named! We have decided to go with island names and we are starting in Hawaii with Maui and Oahu! I’ve got so many fun names on my list that I’m hoping for 20 more kids. Only 2 more are expecting right now though, Bacardi is due in less than 2 weeks and Brandy is due next month.

How it began; in our tiny backyard of mostly concrete (I couldn’t find any pictures) we bought 2 chickens and a chicken coop. We started a garden and began researching raising rabbits and goats. We moved and turned our backyard into a fully sustainable homestead complete with a swim pond with tilapia, a large garden where we also raised worms, and we began raising goats, quail, rabbits, chickens, turkeys, bees and ducks. After we outgrew that property, we moved to our current home, a 13.3 acre property that became Twin Creeks Farm. We now have goats, llamas, alpacas, donkeys, chickens, quail, bees, pigs, a mini horse and an open door policy for animas needing a home. We love sharing the love of our animals and our land with farm tours.

Introducing Roxy’s Reggae Kids. In order of birth: Bob Marley, Ziggy Marley, and Shaggy.
We pick themes for the mamas (hence why we have so many alcohol names) and Roxy’s kids have all been tropical beach related (including tropical drinks). We almost went with islands this time but will save for her next kidding. These boys are so sweet! If you are ready to add to your herd, let me know soon. Both parents have great milking lines and confirmation so if you are looking to add a buck, one of these would be great.

How it began:
We started growing vegetables at home in a tiny garden bed off our side door in a strict HOA that said no gardens allowed in the front yard. Picking fruit off our own trees and eating the lettuce right from the ground was delicious but we knew we needed to do more about the food we were eating. Our daughter was very sick at the time and that’s when we dove into our own food system. We snuck in chickens (thankfully we had the best neighbors) and started researching how much space was needed to raise rabbits. We decided to move so we didn’t have to worry about anyone telling us we can’t have a farm in our backyard and as soon as we moved, we bought goats knowing absolutely nothing about them. We signed the kids up for 4H and that’s where we quickly learned. While the kids have moved on from the animal projects, I fell very much in love with the lifestyle and here we are several years later growing and adding so many animals to the farm.

“Lower your expectations and you’ll be happy, Karen.” It took me nearly 18 years to understand what a friend said when she told me to lower my expectations. She said that’s how she lived happily and didn’t let things bother her. I couldn’t figure it out though because I felt like I deserved better. First of all, I don’t. Your life is what you create and if you spend it wanting and expecting from others, you’ll be miserable for a long time. Lowering my expectations meant going with the flow. It meant not putting pressure on myself or anyone else. It meant not getting upset when plans changed due to circumstances out of our control. It meant just being. Lowering my expectations really meant I needed to ground myself and be right where I was at the time. Just don’t expect the impossible out of yourself or others. Live your life without the expectation of pleasing every single person around you. I get it now and I hope you do too.

Celebrating the kid who reminds us that life is to be enjoyed, that passion drives dedication, he’s the muscles on the farm even though he might not always “want” to help, he always does, and no matter what, he’ll always put God and family above all. Here’s my one piece of mom advice: people will come in and out of your life. Some will be good, some will be bad but all will teach you lessons. Stay true to yourself, know your value, continue to believe in yourself and always, follow your dreams, Wyatt! Happy birthday, we love you more than you’ll ever know.

A happy life is just a string of happy moments. But most people don’t allow the happy moment, because they’re so busy trying to get a happy life. Let’s focus on what’s happening right here, right now and see the positive instead of the negative. Keep doing that and you’ll see drastic changes in your life.
Now, can we talk about how tiny that baby goat is in my son’s arms?

When I gave birth to my first child, I knew at that moment, I would not be returning to work. I couldn’t even leave her to run errands let alone for an entire day. What I didn’t know, was the turn of events that would happen a few short years later. My health declined rapidly. I went from being a very physically active mom to struggling with walking upstairs and chewing my food. Being diagnosed with a mitochondrial disease changed our perspective on absolutely everything. My only goal in life became to raise my children. We changed our lifestyle, and our priorities. At one point I was being fed through tubes and IV’s. I needed a wheelchair to get around. I held onto faith that I would be ok and I am. I still have health problems but not like it was during those years. I’m so grateful for the TIME I’ve been given with my family and being there for everything. Don’t compare your life to others, live for the moment you are in and be grateful every step of the way.

My whole world right here! Bri from came over and took some photos of us as she’s growing her local photography business. I’m loving how these came out and still after living here for 3 years, I’m pinching myself that this is all ours. The land, the animals, the responsibilities, all the work, and the pure joy that comes with it. Life just keeps getting better. And harder but in a good way.

The world is dark. We know this. Posting baby goats can’t change that but it can help worry not steal your joy. It can help you feel light when there is darkness. I will never understand evil, my mind doesn’t work that way. I’ll be here to share this farm love because love will drive out hate even though right now feels so broken.

Has anyone figured out how to keep the baby goats this little forever?

Brandy had her baby! One adorable boy. This was the very first kidding that I have missed and I only missed it by minutes. It was chaotic trying to catch her but once I got mom and kid in the kidding stall, everything was good.

Monday Motivation: find the joy, see the beauty, move your body, feel your emotions, and always be the light. Go get ‘em!

Friday vibes running to the weekend! I hope your weekend is full of fun and joy!

Today’s plan: rest and reset. For the first time in a while I have no place I need to be, no tours booked, and it’s a super stormy rainy day. I’ll be working on the finishing touches of an ecourse that I’ve spent the last year putting together and with the help of my good friend, it’s almost done! Happy Saturday!

You know what still amazes me? That this little bundle was just hanging out with her brother inside of her mom and now she’s here talking, standing, walking, eating, getting ready for college. If you’re local, come meet them Sunday 3/24 at goat Pilates. Comment here for details.

Goats are so extremely capable once they are born but that doesn’t mean they aren’t exhausted and confused. Mai Tais kids are a little over a week old and I’m STILL working on picking names. I’m choosing island names for the rest of the kids born this year. Tahiti, Bahama, Bermuda….add your favorites in the comments.
