I have officially owned this business for 1 year this month!
First of all, I cannot thank you all enough for the support you've given me in the past year. This has been the hardest and most rewarding thing I have ever done. I have found such joy in helping horses and connecting with their owners.
That being said... some changes are coming!
🔘First, for the next month (Aug 1-31) I will be offering 20% off of any massage with no limit to the number of horses it's applied to!
🔘Second, starting September 1st I will be increasing my prices to better reflect the level of skill and services performed.
🔘Third, I will be doing another merch order coming up this fall with more colors and types of clothing!
I'm so excited to see what this next year brings. Thank you all from the bottom of my crazy horse girl heart!
My hands look like this 🤢
so my clients can look like that 🔥
(And yes she does bathe her horse, I just know how to find the dirt 😅)
Intern Kaylee getting some hands on practice!
Kaylee learned all about our 'intake' process and how we assess new clients!
We talked about conformation, symmetry, and movement and then learned each massage stroke. We ended with some practice on this sweet old man 😁
My table buddy looks a little different today!
Kaylee and I are all set up at the Red River Valley Fair for the Alpha Equus English Riders show! Come say hi!

During bodywork horses yawn when tension in their body is being released. But what exactly triggers it? Let's find out...
Through massage we use a variety of strokes that help to relax the body which has a direct effect on the parasympathetic nervous system, putting the body in the "relaxation response" state.
This "relaxation response" also causes blood vessels to dilate which helps to increase circulation thus increasing heat within the body along with the brain.
In humans and in dogs, we are actually yawning to help cool the brain down 🤯
Well, it is still a working theory - thermoregulatory theory of yawning. The opening of the jaw during a yawn has a direct influence on blood flow in the head, neck and face. It works like a pump, pumping out hot blood and pushing in cooler blood helping to cool down the brain.
Like I said, it is still a working theory within humans but something that is pretty cool to think about.
Regardless of the scientific meaning behind a massage know that a yawn is more often than not a positive sign that the horse is enjoying their massage.

Here's some more highlights from Shiner's massage!
He was struggling with some shoulder pain and was a little apprehensive about my touch at first. It's so cool to see the moment when he finally releases the tension he's holding and lowers his head and closes his eyes 🥰
Shiner is so lucky to have an awesome owner that listens to her horse and does everything she can to keep him happy and healthy!
Thanks Hannah!
Attention clients!
My July schedule is quickly filling up.
Message now to grab my last few spots!
When you get a bad itch in the middle of a good release😅

Go Kaylee Go! So proud to get to work with this amazing girl!
At the beginning of 2023, there were whispers about cuts to the North Dakota State University Equine Science Program. Strong student support kept the program alive.
☀I'm so excited to finally announce this! ☀
Kaylee will be joining me as my Summer intern!
Here's a little about her!
"Hello, my name is Kaylee Barrieau. I am from Minnetrista, MN. I am studying Animal and Equine Science at NDSU. I also ride on the NDSU Western Equestrian Team. I plan to go into animal bodywork after college. I found interest in equine massage because I love horses and like being able to help them relieve stress and relax. I aspire to learn more about how to help with pain and soreness in equines and other animals as well. I really look forward to working with Jessie and growing my knowledge about horses and massage."
Kaylee will be riding along with me to appointments and events as well as helping with social media and other business management things! Thanks Kaylee!
I will be at the Hunter/Jumper clinic hosted by Alpha Equus English Riders next weekend! So excited to meet all of the riders and horses!

Welcome Spring! (It's about damn time!) Brush the dust (or snow) off of those horses and get them booked for a massage to prepare their muscles for work again! My Spring schedule is quickly filling up, so book now!
As a massage therapist, I love the instant gratification I get from horses having big releases in the form of yawning, stretching, making noises, or shaking their entire body. But I do have to remind myself that the small releases like a subtle softening of the eye are just as important as the big ones. Check out these cool moments from a session a few weeks ago. If you watch ForSale's eyes closely, you can see the moment he goes from "why is this lady poking me there?" to "Oh wait, that feels nice." He may not show it in big ways, but this massage was definitely therapeutic for him 💙
Here are some highlights from Leo's massage the other week! His owner says he's typical pretty stoic, so it was fun to see how expressive he was in his releases! Lots of licking, chewing, stretching, yawning, and head shakes! . . . Thanks Brennah for letting me record and for trusting me with this big guy!
Here's some more from Keenlin's session the other day. He's quite the expressive guy. Ft. Ivan always patrolling the barn
"Please don't eat that, PLEASE DON'T EAT THAT!" - A typical phrase said while massaging Keenlin. Many have heard of horses licking and chewing to release tension, but many horses also like something to chew on to release the same endorphins. Keenlin is one of those horses, he needs a lead rope or cross tie to chew on before he can have a big release. The only issue is is Keenlin does not always know when to spit it out.
Not only am I a Certified Equine Massage Therapist, I am also a Professional Pony Smoocher. I may be a professional in my field but I will never turn down snuggles and smooches from big guys like Keenlin.
Why do horses lick and chew when they feel good? "Licking and chewing behavior is probably one of the most misunderstood horse behaviors. It simply reflects a change in autonomic nervous system tone that results in salivation that stimulates licking, chewing, and sometimes a big swallow. The lick and chew reflex is actually an indicator of a release of stress or tension. During a bodywork session when a horse starts licking and chewing we associate it will a release of tension and restriction." -Equine Solutions Blog
Most of the time I can notice when a horse is about to release. This time I was not paying attention and got snot in my face and a tongue in my ear 😂
