Today's topic is home wound care. It is important that you do not use alcohol, soaps, or hydrogen peroxide unless directed by your veterinary care team.

Wounds can be cleaned with simple warm water and allowed to drain naturally.

Gauze can be used as a compress to control bleeding if needed and can be held on with a loose wrap.

Simple triple antibiotic ointment can be applied to small wounds.

An e-collar may be needed to prevent your pet from further messing with the wound.

Large wounds or abnormal drainage should be seen by your vet team. When in doubt we will gladly help answer questions and can look at wound pictures over email to assess if your pet should be seen.

Today we wanted to highlight one of the important parts of Animal health that is often overlooked, Dental Care. Having healthy teeth is key to keeping your pet healthy all around. When a dental infection occurs, it can spread throughout the body.

One of the best ways to help with dental care at home is brushing your pet's teeth. We understand this is not feasible for everyone and a good dental chew can also help.

Many pets will also need professional dental cleanings in their life. This includes not only removing any tartar buildup on the tooth, but also removing infected or broken teeth. It is also important for us to perform X-rays during these procedures as many things are hiding beneath the gum line.

The dog mouth in this post is extra special, he has an extra tooth 🦷. Comment pictures of your pets happy healthy smiles 😁.

Tick season is upon us in full force. In fact, with the mild winter, tick season never truly ended. We have multiple preventatives available at the clinic to help keep your pets safe from these pests all year long. Call the clinic to ensure your tick borne disease test is current to pick up your preventatives and get all of your tick questions answered. Check your pets regularly even when they are on preventatives, especially after walking in wooded areas and tall grass.

Did you know that our amazing Dr. Candace and her dog Violet have begun their journey in the Mayo therapy dog program? It is an animal-assisted intervention program where registered therapy animal teams provide friendly visits to hospital patients and staff. Dogs soften the impact of being a patient in a medical center by providing an opportunity to receive unconditional love. They are part of Mayo Clinic’s commitment to healing of mind, body and spirit. Mayo Clinic is looking for another 80 teams this year! Please consider becoming a volunteer if you have a dog that would love to provide support to those in need! It just might change your life too!

04/16/2024

The clinic is having a staff meeting from 12-2pm. The doors will still be open for those who need to pick up prescriptions and/or food.

We appreciate your understanding!
