Ok for the next few weeks i'm going to go through the different versatility classes and how they can help any horse be better for everyday use.

First up Model/halter class.
In Tennessee walking horses we call it Model it is on your horse conformation, fitness and finish.

The other part is Parking your horse out to show at best advantage. This means front and rear leg stand even and the horse leans forward to have front legs perpendicular to the ground with hinds behind the vertical. Proud headset to show keen eye.

So why is this important to everyday riders. Teaching your horse to stand still while, people walk around may help your farrier and vet to be safe while treating lil bucky. Standing still and balanced make for safer mounts, easier saddling, horses less stressed because they get lots of praise for parking. Imagine a mess on the trail or a evil turkey running out of the woods at you. Your horse immediately stops and parks because he is scared but "i always get praised for parks" mentality kicks in. We smile and say it hard to get dumped from the park.
Plus for those of us up north it is something to improve in the cold nasty winter.
At the barn we call it walks and whoas. To train the horse to bond and stay with you. Right beside you, eventually leads to not needing a lead to have the horse stay with you.
Grooming and riding improves fit and finish. Wow brushing working your horse sounds like a good thing for many horses. Quality grooming catches cuts and injuries before they can get bad. In shape horses stay usable longer than pasture pets.

Next up Showmanship at halter.

To maintain a correct upper body position in the corners, imagine you are balancing on an exercise ball. If you lean your torso into a turn, your seat bones will push the ball (horse) in the opposite direction (below right). To help the horse balance, keep your spine straight and use your shoulders to turn. Your seat bones will follow. Try it on a ball, it works!
