These summer babies may have taken longer than normal to get to a good weight, but they are BEAUTIFUL. Breeding late in the season was a chance I was willing to take, and I’m very grateful it worked out. Peaches & Buster threw some beautiful shades of Chestnut, Castor, and looks like if I’m selective, I may be able to start a RED line. 🙌🏻 🎉

🎉 Peaches is a mother, again🎉
After the heartbreak of losing 8 of the 9 of her first litter back in February, I gave Peaches a long break. It was very hard to process all the loss and change we have experienced in our rabbitry. Lots of change lately. However, this little bundle of joys has brought us a lot to be grateful for. The first nestbox photo is night 1. The second nestbox photo is today: day 3. Without the freezing temperatures and wild heat swings, Peaches is showing what a truly incredible mother she really is. ❤️ 🥰
The last photo is “Little Hippo”, the lone survivor of her first litter. She is a wild one, but beautiful 🤩.

This little one is a fighter. With all the horrendous weather the last week has brought- from the torrential 48 hour windstorms, the freak tornados, the raining downpours, and the temperatures swinging from a sunny 89 to a wet 45 in less than 12 hours, this little one has survived them all. I am taking gender neutral name suggestions for this lone litter survivor. It’s been a rough week on us all. But for her, she is showing us the meaning of fighting for your life. ❤️

*Little hippo is staying inside with us now during the cold 🥶 since no siblings are there to help keep her warm. We will be bringing her back out to mom for feedings. We tried bringing mom inside too, but she wasn’t having it. To avoid further stress, we are trying this arrangement for now. *

🎉🎉The Divine Nine🎉🎉

The largest litter we have ever been blessed with is from the pairing of this first time mom and this reliable buck.🤞🏻 Fingers crossed Peaches is a natural. So far it appears to be so.

Today is a big day for Peaches 🍑
I will make her a beautiful birth announcement once I’m on the mend, but I have to give her a shout out! 9️⃣ beautiful little kits! This first time mom handled her first kindling like a champion! She was on time, and she made a beautiful nest with a ton of fur. 🤎🥰

It’s always hard to make these updates. ❤️‍🩹 Last week unfortunately 2 of the mostly white kits in Cadbury’s litter passed away. Sometimes these things happen, and unfortunately they were just too weak to fight for resources with the other four just growing so much faster than them. It is a sad story, and I am still really sad. However, when it comes to breeding rabbits, you really want the strongest genes to survive. It is very possible that the 2 smaller white bunnies didn’t have great digestive tracts. It’s very possible that Cadbury knew this. These two had been smaller from the start. They were separated from the other four in the nest when I found them passed away.

Unfortunately in the single digits yesterday evening I found the black otter bunny had wandered out of the nest and passed away. This one was really devastating for me as it was otherwise healthy. I made the decision to “shelf” this litter. Which means that I am bringing them inside except a couple times a day (morning/night) for mom to feed them. Otherwise, they are staying in the warmth inside the house. I don’t think my heart can take any more loss.

Graycie’s nest is still intact with lots of fur, and she is acting fiercely protective over her 3. So I am less worried that her “Winter Blue” litter is going to be negatively affected during this winter cold snap. 🤍

Cadbury’s “Speckled 6” litter are growing and their spots are starting to shine through like little Dalmatians! The two completely white bunnies are getting their little “Charlie” markings. I find them extremely charming! 🥰

First looks 👀 at the kits 🥰

My protocol is to check on them soon after delivery to make sure everyone is alive and fed. This allows me to give momma an extra snack to boost her calories (& spirit!) to distract her while I check them out and snap a couple photos. I only spend a minute to disturb them the least amount as possible! Their nests are done so beautifully; I honestly hate disturbing them! Cadbury had her 6 babies lined up in a neat beautiful row. 😍🥹 I cannot wait to see these 9 kits grow and flourish. These mommas are doing a great job, and my heart is full.

I was saddened that even though we had 5 does successfully bred, only 2 have delivered. Those odds are not in our favor. Some hard decisions are ahead. But for today, we are grateful for Cadbury & Graycie doing their part and being great mothers. 💞
