Our residents come to the Sanctuary for different reasons and from different circumstances. Our most recent group came to us with minimum handling and so we have been working with them to socialize and to gain their trust. Today was a great day at the Sanctuary when our farrier was able to trim many of them. The remaining horses will be trimmed very soon and that will be a great accomplishment and the result of hard work. Many, many thanks to our farrier Daniel and also Bo, and our loving staff Bethany, Judi, Bronte, Meri and Taylor. This is the work at the Sanctuary and in this hot weather a real tribute to everyone on this day. Would you like to help with our farrier cost? If you can, and want to donate it is very easy and we are a 501c3 charity. Donate at:

Thanks to all our supporters! It means a lot!

Update on our Crash! Crash had an appointment at Weems and Stephens today for a check on the progress of his cancer treatment. While several of the lesions are healing nicely, the large lesion which includes an internal mass is not shrinking as quickly as the doctor would like, Crash had a second chemo treatment today and will return in a month for another check up and another probably chemo treatment. As always, Crash was a gentleman and tolerates his treatments as well as the long trailer ride to Weems and back. Many many thanks to our friend Betsy for hauling him on these many trips. Upon his return to GoldStar his bestie Scout came running to meet him. Crash was glad to be home.

Walking the Sanctuary property this evening after still another pop up torrential downpour and storm. There is a large lake on the property and it runs into a small stream which completely dries up in a normal summer. That small stream has over flowed its banks and is now quite wide. Not very long ago we could just take a few steps across it into another section of pasture. Tonight would have required a swim - or a boat. Whoever is out there doing a rain dance - for the love of God - please stop.

Goldstar had a special rescue today! This monster crawfish was washed up with all of the flooding we had yesterday. We put him in a creek on property so he can live out his days at the sanctuary! We are so thankful for every rescue we are fortunate enough to be a part of. 🦞

Today was a sad day at The Sanctuary. Our grand old man, Vamanose grew his wings and crossed the Rainbow Bridge. He was 41 years old. Vamanose was rescued from very bad circumstances 15 years ago by our friend Maria Giordano. Maria entrusted Vamanose to our care in his retirement and he has been at the Sanctuary for many years. His stall is now empty, but our hearts are full of fond memories of this wonderful horse. He left this Earth this morning surrounded by his many friends. He was loved by all, and so many will remember the lessons he taught them and the fun times had with him. It was a privilege to have him with us and we know all of his friends who have gone before him were waiting to greet their old friend on the other side.

Many, many thanks to everyone who braved the extreme weather this morning: Hayley, Braden, Becca, Rebecca, Sylvia. We are still without power but Farmers Electric tells me a truck has been sent to our location at 3:51 so hopefully we will soon be up. Horses are still in as we had so much rain. But we hope tomorrow will be a better day. We are so very fortunate that none of our horses, llamas, chickens, dogs, cats were injured. We had property damage, but the animals are all safe and sound, and none of use got injured - although we suffered a few falls in the mud.

A little bit of rain, some thunder rumbling, but at least no severe storms so far. George, Tyson and Jake were in the silver barn thinking it was going to storm, but when it did not, they ventured out to grazing as the air cooled down just a bit.

We are so privileged at The Sanctuary to be able to care for all of the animals entrusted to us, especially our wonderful equines. From the youngest to the oldest. Misty was born at the Sanctuary and she is now 7 years old and a feisty young lady. Vamanose is our beloved old gentleman at age 41. Each of our residents is precious and we so love them all. We appreciate all the hard work our staff, volunteers and the many professionals who help take care of all our residents.

And a river runs through it..... Will this rain ever stop? The Sanctuary is fortunate that we have good run off, but even that cannot cope with the torrential downpours we had today and tonight. last I heard we had 2 to 3 inches of rain - again. We sure do need to dry out.

Rain rain go away! Once again heavy rains pelleted Farmersville! This was earlier today. This evening a lot of drainage occurred and with the help of some wind and tomorrow some warm sunshine, we hope the ever present mud will dry up! The horses are again tucked in their stalls tonight, but most will be able to return to their pastures after eating a hearty breakfast tomorrow morning. The horses have spent a lot of nights in their stalls these last three months. The Sanctuary uses a lot of large flake bedding in the stalls. If you are inclined to help a horse be comfortable in his or her own little apartment, we would appreciate any donations you may want to make to defray this cost. It's easy! You can call Farmersville Grain at 972-782-7241 and order how many bags of large flake shavings for GoldStar Horse Rescue you want to donate. Believe me - they know us well. They take credit cards and we can pick up your donation as they are just a few minutes away! Remember we are a 501c3 charity and your gift is tax deductible. We hope for the return of bright and welcome sunshine soon!

Our sweet Crimmy.. Crimson has arthritis that does not treat her well with the rain. She was in a lot pain today, so she got some extra bute, good rest in her stall, and lots of lovins from employees while she rested. She will spend the night in her stall with all of her friends to avoid any issues with the coming thunderstorm.

We love our Crimmy! Come say hi! She loves visitors! Schedule a tour by texting 214-592-6649 ☀️
