Let's talk about how severe weather changes can impact our horses, especially during this time of year when temperatures fluctuate dramatically throughout the day. 🌦️☀️

Did you know that extreme temperature fluctuations can lead to dehydration in horses? Whether it's the cold weather reducing their water intake or excessive sweating in hot weather, dehydration can dry out their colon and potentially cause blockages, resulting in impaction colic. 😱

Furthermore, severe weather often limits our horses' activity levels. During hot weather, they'll naturally slow down to avoid overheating, while in cold weather, they tend to stay in their stalls or shelters. This inactivity can increase the risk of colic episodes. 😔

Even changes in barometric pressure associated with severe weather can impact our equine friends. While not extensively studied, rapid pressure changes are known to trigger headaches and migraines in humans. 🌪️

So, the next time the weather takes a turn, let's be proactive and keep our horses healthy! 👍 Monitor their water consumption, consider adding soaked beet pulp or chopped forage to increase hydration, and don't skimp on turnout even when the weather isn't ideal. 🌿
