Barn-Sour Horse Tip: One way to deter your horse from wanting to rush back to the barn is to come back to it on different paths. In other words, try not to always come back to the barn from the same trail. Or, when you do come back to the barn, work the horse, and then immediately ride him off on another trail. Stay a step ahead of him. I do this with my horses even when I’m riding them in the arena. All of my arenas have multiple gates I can take my horses in and out of, so I’m conscious of always leaving the arenas through different gates. That stops the horses from getting hooked on one particular gate and thinking it’s how they can escape work. - Clinton

How you begin each day with your horse, from the moment you approach his stall or pasture, sets the tone for the training session ahead. Just as important, how you end each day reinforces the day’s lessons and your horse’s connection to you.

There’s an often repeated horsemanship saying that goes, “The last thing you do with your horse today is the first thing he’ll remember tomorrow.” It’s absolutely true. If your horse is calm, tuned in to you and working well, that’s the frame of mind you’ll find him in the next session. On the other hand, if your horse is fearful, upset or worried, that’s where he’ll pick up when you go to work with him again.

It should be every horseman’s goal to begin and end each day with their horse so that he’s in a relaxed frame of mind, using the thinking side of his brain and is soft and supple. – Clinton

Open spots available!

I do c**t starting, tune ups and horses with behavior issues (ground manners, disrespectful, riding issues,…)

I’m located at the Downunder Horsemanship Ranch in Farmington, AR.

I’m also looking for two halter broke c**ts for the 10 day C**t Starting Clinic held by Jeff Davis in August.
The c**t have to be sound with no lameness history, not older than 4 years and no studs!

If you are interested in sending your horse through my training don’t hesitate to contact me and I’ll tell you more about the training.

The training isn’t cheap, your horse will get lots of training and miles under his feet.

There are three ways to get a well trained horse: buy it trained, pay somebody else to train it or train it yourself.

Happy New Year everyone!

Happy New Year everyone!

We humans are always looking for shortcuts to solve problems, and it’s no different when we run into one with our horses. Instead of taking the time to ensure that our horse’s foundation is solid and that there aren’t any holes in it, it’s far easier to reach for the bigger bit and spurs. All that will do is cover up the problem, and sooner or later, there won’t be a bit or spur big enough to hide the holes in your horse’s foundation. Whenever you run into issues with your horses, always go back to the basics to figure out what the issue is and fix it from there. – Clinton

As you progress your horse’s training, you’ll happen upon an area that requires you to go back and get your foundation better. Admittedly, this will happen more often at the beginning of your horsemanship journey as you’re working on building your experience.

The more horses you work with and the more you add to your knowledge, the better you can get this learning curve down. However, this happens to even experienced horsemen. You’ll think you have something done well, but when you ask the horse for a more advanced maneuver, he’ll let you know you’ve got a hole in your foundation and he needs more help.

There’s no shame in realizing there’s a hole in your foundation and going back and fixing it. The only problem is when your foundation isn’t strong and you ignore it and continue pushing the horse. That isn’t fair to him and is just setting him up for failure. When you get into trouble, always go backwards, not forwards. – Clinton

A lot of people who attend clinics seem to think that we don’t want to rub on your horse at all. Well that’s not the case, we want you to love on your horse but he needs to respect you first otherwise he will walk all over you. Most people tend to only love on their horse, so when I get there I have to show you how to gain respect and control by moving his feet, forwards, backwards, left, and right. I usually don’t have to teach someone how to love their horse.

Hi, I’m Isabelle!

I’ve been around horses since I was born and I started riding by the time I was 6! Later on I also competed in local shows with my first horse Blacky, a Quarter Horse gelding. When I started searching for opportunities to better my horsemanship, I met Maren, who invited me to come help and learn at her barn. I would travel to her place 1.5 hours every school break and almost every weekend during my last year of school, and she taught me the Method. I attended the clinic in 2019 taught by Jeff Davis and Shayla Smock in Germany. Since the summer of 2022 I’m a certified Clinton Anderson Method Ambassador.

I’ll be training the horses at Clinton's ranch in Farmington, AR and the horses will be boarded at his world class facility and will be in best of care there.
The training horses will be taken through the six-week Academy Horse Program, learning the Fundamentals level of the Method as well as everyday skills such as standing quietly while tied up, being confident with their feet being handled and much more. I’ll work with the horses in the arena, outside the arena and over obstacles and I’ll be training alongside experienced trainers, like Jeff Davis, Kristin Hamacher and Clinton himself!

If you want learn more about my training program send a message or an email to [email protected] and I'd love to answer any questions you have.
