Franklin County Animal Shelter

Until they find their families, they're a part of ours. We provide medical treatment including vaccinations and sterilization to all animals prior to adoption.

Since 1974, our purpose has been to provide temporary care and shelter to stray, homeless, and abandoned animals. FCAS serves the community as an adoption facility where loving families and pets needing homes come together. The shelter strives to educate the public in the proper care of pets including increasing public awareness of the companion animal overpopulation issue.

It's time for 7th annual Olde Fashioned Christmas at The Washburn-Norlands Living History Center! Each year, local nonprofits are chosen to receive support from this family-friendly event, and FCAS will be represented with a tree! The Olde Fashioned Christmas will provide a mix of free and paid activities, tree displays, Christmas carolers, and a chance to step back in time with historical activities!

Event times are:
Friday, December 6th, 4pm-7pm

Saturday, December 7th, 10am-7pm

Sunday, December 8th, 12pm-3pm

What a fun event for such a great cause! See you there!

It's that time of year! We will be sharing many holiday-related events and announcements this season, and this is one of our favorites!
F.A. Peabody Insurance is holding their 12th annual Christmas Pet Photo Contest from Dec 2 through Dec 20. For every entry made on behalf of FCAS, we will receive a donation, and the photo with the most likes will earn $100 for our shelter! We can't wait to see all of your furry and feathered friends in their holiday best!

Flora is taking a sweet nap after our kennel techs make sure the rooms are sparkling clean in the morning! She can rest easy, knowing the FCAS humans will keep her belly full, and provide a fresh blanket to lounge on, until she finds her forever home.

Come visit Flora and the other shelter cats during our open hours noon to 4 pm, every day but Sunday!

Kitty was shocked to find out how low we are on food! We have been feeding more and more cats as the weather gets cold, so it’s time to stock up for the winter, and make sure their little bellies are full!
For kitten food, we are looking for Iams Healthy Kitten kibble (in the purple bag), and any kitten wet food will do! For adult cat food, we are looking for Purina Cat Chow (in the blue bag) and pate wet food is the best for our pals! We are also always looking for CAT LITTER, too!

Anything helps!

Our dog of the month for November is Beau! He's the "quintessential hound", with a tall, lean body, a hearty, bellowing howl, and those eyes...

As is typical with hound dogs, Beau is very vocal, and really wishes he had a nice, big yard to match his voice, and a human who appreciates it when he alerts them to visitors - or invaders! Hunting is in his blood, so he wouldn't be the best roommate for cats or other small animals. He would be the very best friend to the right person, though, and he is still available at a discounted Hound-a-palooza adoption fee.

We are so grateful for our generous community - local businesses, organizations, and citizens alike! Without you, we would not be able to provide the level of care and service to the precious animals we have here at the shelter. Your donations will go towards making sure every kitten, cat, dog, guinea pig, and rabbit has a fully belly, medical care and a safe place to sleep until they find their forever homes. Come down to FCAS Monday through Saturday, 12-4 to visit with your future family member! Our kitten room is open to the public during our open hours. Kittens are available for adoption for $150, and if you adopt more than one, we will take $25 off of EACH kitten! When you adopt from FCAS, your kitten will have been spayed/neutered, tested for ear mites and Feline AIDS and Leukemia (FIV/FeLV), vaccinated against rabies and distemper as appropriate for age, microchipped, treated for fleas/ticks and worms, as well as received a nail trim and ear cleaning, a total value of $350 to $425.
