Yesterday all the donations that were collected over the holidays were picked up for the Humane Society of Fulton County Illinois and SAMS Stray Animal Midway Shelter. The generosity of our clients always warms our hearts 🥰
A huge thank you to all who donated, as well as the volunteers Claire from SAMS and Rendy from HSFC who came to pick up the donations!

🎶It’s the most wonderful time of the year🎶

We’re currently accepting donations for the the shelter pets at the Humane Society of Fulton County and SAMS.

Each rescue has requested the items listed in the picture posted, so we will be accepting donations on their behalf. Any donations may be brought to the clinic and placed under our Christmas tree at the front of the building. We will be accepting all donations until December 29, 2023, after which the donations will then be divided and donated to both shelters.

We appreciate any help so that our furry friends in need may also have a happy holiday season! 🎅🏼🎄

While there have been no confirmed cases in the area, we wanted to give an update on the respiratory disease going around in dogs. At this time, no one is positive what the underlying cause is but there is a high suspicion of it being a viral infection.
Our recommendation is to try to minimize contact with other dogs by limiting exposure at daycare and dog parks. Dogs that travel outside their home area are at higher risk to get and transmit disease.
If you notice any changes in your dogs breathing or excessive coughing, please let us know.

Canine respiratory disease is reported in some parts of the U.S. Emergency specialist Dr. Lisa Bazzle updates dog owners and offers advice.

We love dressing up our furry friends, but please be careful about any holiday treats you give them! We all know chocolate is toxic, but sugar-free candies can be toxic as well, so it’s best to keep the candy away from our spooky sidekicks 👻

I am challenging you our clients to fill the hearts of our technicians/ staff by leaving a note here (or mailing a handwritten note) to let our team know of a time when you were thankful for them.

As our veterinary technician (staff) week draws to a close, I want to publicly say what a great group of ladies that we have working for us.
Not everyone sees all the love and concern they put into every day. Our days are full of joy and puppy kisses and also saying goodbye and tears. They monitor anesthesia and administer medications. Our staff educate and console you the pet owners and cuddle your pets too. This job is hard and a kind word truly helps.

Consider all the food, treats, and table food they consume and decrease calories to help lose weight.

Labor Day weekend is a great chance to celebrate our modern workforce, but also a nice 3 day weekend for most!
We will also be taking a 3 day weekend by being closed on Monday, September 4th. We’re still open today until 5pm for any medications you might need though! Call ahead and don’t wait until 4:57pm to try and get refills!

🔥We’ve got a scorcher coming🔥
The coming days are forecasted to have dangerous heat levels. None of us want to be outside in this heat, and we need to watch out for our furry friends too!

Please review the information on the signs of heat stroke. If you are concerned your pet may have heat stroke, call the clinic (309-245-2888) or Tri-County Emergency Clinic (309-672-1565) for after hours care.

Also black cats (and dogs) are notoriously difficult to get adopted out of shelters. Maybe a little superstition out there.

✨Senior Spotlight✨
Well, they’re not seniors anymore! This summer we have the pleasure of having recent Farmington High School graduates Abby Cash and Phoebe Ulm working with us!

Abby was our Co-op student who worked with us part time throughout her senior year. Abby will be attending Black Hawk Community College this fall working toward a degree in Veterinary Technology with an applied science in Large Animals.

Phoebe (who has obvious ties to the clinic 😉) has been working part time with us off and on all through her entire high school career. Phoebe will be attending Augustana College in the fall majoring in Biology, focusing on Pre-Veterinary Medicine.

They’re both incredibly intelligent, capable young women, and we’re proud to help them get a head start on their journeys in Vet Med! They’ll be with us all summer, so if you see them at the clinic, make sure to wish them good luck!

Photo contest received over 300 submissions. We are working hard to choose just 36 photos.
We had some amazing photos and tons of cute pets.
Some photos had to be pulled as they were not enough pixels to enlarge for canvases. We will update soon with some of the winners.

We have loved seeing our very own patients' furry faces displayed throughout the clinic from last years contest. If interested in submitting a photo, please check out the info below.

Pet must be a current patient of our clinic.
Submit a high quality photo of your pet(s). Photos should not come from Facebook, as they are not able to be enlarged. Photos should be original photos directly from your device.
No people in the pictures, please!
We will crop the photo to the specifications necessary to make canvas prints that will be displayed in the clinic, so please do not submit photos that are already tightly cropped.
Please pick your favorite photos and limit submissions to three (3) per family.

This week the donations you all brought during December were picked up by PFS Shelter and Peoria County Animal Protection Services. We had another great turn out of donations! You guys blow us away every year!

UPDATE:

We will be closing today, 12/22, at NOON due to the incoming weather.

We will be CLOSED tomorrow, 12/23, due to the unsafe driving conditions for both clients and staff.

Please stay safe, and call Tri-County for any emergencies.

WINTER WEATHER UPDATE:

As of right now, we are still planning to be open Thursday, 12/22, and will decide Friday’s scheduling when we can assess the weather. That being said, due to the incoming winter weather, we will have a limited staff and will only stay open as long as the working staff members feel safe doing so. Please plan ahead wisely, if you need any medication, food, etc, please contact us sooner rather than later.

We will be closed Saturday through Monday in observance of the Christmas holiday. Tri-County Emergency Clinic in Peoria is still having Doctor staffing issues, so if you are experiencing an emergency, please call Tri-County ahead of time in case they need to direct you elsewhere.

As always, please have a pleasant holiday weekend, but also please make sure you and your pets are staying safe and warm.
