We have had some questions regarding dogs dying from a new stain of parvovirus in Michigan. It turns out these dogs died from the original parvovirus and they were not fully vaccinated against the virus.

When getting a new puppy or kitten, please make sure to finish their vaccine series as recommended by their doctor and keep them up to date with their scheduled boosters.

Veterinarians are encouraged to call the Laboratory if they have any questions about sample collection, submission, or diagnostic options and contact MDARD if unusual or reportable illnesses are seen.
