C9K9 Valkyrie🩵 (10.5 months old)
While she is capable of much more advanced public access outings, always going back go every day, simple outings like book stores and grocery stores and essential!
While high distraction and stimulating environments like the hockey game she went to a few weeks ago are great for exposure and training, “low level” outings like every day outings focus on the dogs ability to stay excited with working but not get bored. Working with less is always more!
Keeping engagement in “boring” environments can sometimes be hard for young dogs while they look for something more exciting, but teaching them that the work itself with their handler is just as exciting as the loud, busy environments.

Introducing Poppy🌷! Poppy is a C9K9 long-term program service dog that is looking for a handler currently!

About Poppy: Poppy is a 19 week old, Labrador retriever that has been in my possession for the past 2.5 weeks after being transported to me from Pennsylvania to be evaluated as a service dog prospect. She is a rescue but has shown lots of potential for working during training sessions in and out of the home over the past weeks. She is a loving, energetic, and engaging puppy with a medium food drive, medium toy drive, and confident and comfortable around people.
Poppy would be best suited for a handler in need of medical alert, psychiatric alert/response, or possibly non weight bearing mobility. I do not foresee her getting big enough for any weight bearing mobility tasks.
Poppy has been vetted and is good health. She has one more set of vaccinations to go in for.

What is a Long-Term Program? Out long- term service dog programs are 12-18 months long and turn out a trained service dog. There is an affordable monthly payment associated with this type of program that is available on our website or upon request. This a fully custom program to fit the handlers needs and wants from a service dog.

If you are interested in Poppy as your future service dog, please send us an email or message to get started on the process! Poppy will not start any service dog specific training, only basic-advanced obedience and manners, until matched with a handler for specification and customization in training.

Introducing Peach🍑! C9K9s new Forward Paws program service dog!

About Peach: Peach is a 19 week old, Labrador that has been in my possession for 2.5 weeks. She is a rescue from up in Pennsylvania that was transported down to me to be evaluated and the chance to become a service dog! Over the past almost 3 weeks, I have been observing and testing Peach to see if she is a good fit for the program. She is an energetic, intelligent, and engaging dog that has shown potential during her training session in and out of the home. She has a high food drive, medium you drive, and has been confident and comfortable around people.
While I’m not sure what Peach’s service speciality will be yet, she will be learning and growing in the program to either be a psychiatric assistance dog or a medical alert dog. I do not foresee her becoming large enough to do any weight bearing mobility. She will be in our program for approximately 1-2 years and will be looking for a handler when a speciality and direction is becoming clear for her future! When the time comes, an application will be posted and open! So be on the look out!

What is Forward Paws? If you are unfamiliar with our Forward Paws Service Dog program, please see how highlight on our page and bio. Forward Paws program dogs are places for a very low price (cost of food and vet care while in training) with a handler in need but that cannot afford the full price of a service dog. Forward Paws gives rehomed or rescused dogs a second chance! Forward a look at a past Forward Paws Service Dog, please visit the highlight labeled “F.P. River” in our bio.

Board and train Remus is coming to the end of his 6 week b.mod program in his 5th week.
Goals for Remus coming in was to work on his human reactivity in and out of the house, follow through on known commands, and build confidence around distractions and people in public pet-friendly locations.

He has shown a lot of growth in all these areas over the weeks and we are very proud of him! These 6 weeks are to give him and his owners a step up on his behavior and training and to continue with what he has learned here at home.

There is too much expectation being out on puppies from such a young age. At 12 weeks old, i do not expect a puppy to walk in a perfect heel, know 10 commands, or to not be curious in their surroundings. Its unfair to expect so much from a puppy who is still learning where their feet are! I expect them to be confident, curious, and want to engage with me during training. Training should move slow, be fun, and create a bond and trust. Training is not about who can get the most done the fastest or at the youngest age. Take time with your dog, train at their speed and at yours, not at the speed as someone online.
