🌟✨CHEF SPOTLIGHT!✨🌟

Chef Case Dighero will be serving a main course at the Community Night - Evening at the Farm on October 12th!

Case Dighero is an influential component of the culinary community of Arkansas and the High South. An active proponent of the NWA food movement, Dighero owns the project-based company, “Edible Culture” that focuses on culinary insights through the lens of writing, chef work, and entertainment; he is also the food editor of Citiscapes Metro Monthly magazine, promoting the food culture and history throughout the Natural State.

Prior to starting EC, he served as Director of Culinary at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, helping to define the philosophy of “High South” for the museum’s culinary program. Joining the Crystal Bridges’ team in 2010, Dighero established the museum’s mantra of modern American comfort food with an emphasis on traditions that hail from the “High South” region of the Ozarks. His “edible responsibility” approach demonstrates a commitment to promoting and celebrating local food culture, featuring fresh ingredients from farmers and other food artisans in and around the Ozarks. The robust cuisine of Crystal Bridges not only nourishes, but also tells a story—inspired by the art, natural surroundings, and fascinating American history connected to the museum.

After leaving the museum in 2018, case continued to host several popular public programs that included Wednesday Over Water or WOW, DISH (featuring women in cuisine), and the CR(EAT)E Food Series, all focusing on the entertaining virtues of the cross section between cuisine and art.

Dighero currently serves on several civic and social committees, including his current post as vice president on the board of directors for the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks, as well as partnerships with Apple Seeds Teaching Garden and Honeycomb Kitchen.

Join us for September's Kitchen Table Dinner, presented by Generations Health and Wellness Center, and experience an evening celebrating community-driven, farm-to-table cuisine with Chef Kristine Irwin of Conifer Restaurant. Chef Kristine is passionate about fostering meaningful relationships within the local food ecosystem, a passion that will shine through in every dish featuring Apple Seeds' produce. Enjoy the soulful music of Korey McKelvey during our happy hour, providing the perfect backdrop for a relaxing Sunday evening of early fall.

Featured Chef - Chef Kristine Irwin, raised in the arid landscapes of Arizona, now thrives in Northwest Arkansas. Her culinary journey began at a young age, learning alongside her great-grandmother in the kitchen. Driven by a passion for empowering women in the culinary arts and sharing love through food, Kristine sees the kitchen table as the heart of community and connection. Kristine received formal training through Brightwater Culinary School leading her to work alongside Chef Matthew Cooper at Conifer Restaurant in Bentonville. Their shared vision and culinary philosophy became the cornerstone of Kristine's journey, propelling her to her current role as Sous Chef. As she continues to establish her roots in the vibrant and emerging culinary scene of Northwest Arkansas, Chef Kristine Irwin remains steadfast in her commitment to culinary excellence, community enrichment, and sustainable cooking.

Featured Musician - Korey McKelvey is a Fayetteville-born, Northwest Arkansas-raised vocalist and multi-instrumentalist who performs solo, duo, full band, and tribute shows that range in sounds from folk to blues, to soul, to funk. She plays in the Americana band Dandelion Heart (who you might have heard at Evening at the Farm!); a Fleetwood Mac tribute band, Deepwood Mac; The Korey McKelvy Band, a soul-funk band that will make you want to dance; and in 2023 she released a folk-blues EP "The Other Side of the Mountain."

This event takes place on Sunday, September 8, from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Apple Seeds Teaching Farm in Fayetteville, AR.

Today we say "See you later" to Josie, our amazing Volunteer Coordinator! Josie served as an AmeriCorps VISTA member at Apple Seeds for two year-long terms. She built up our volunteering and food donation programs, kept our garden growing when we were in-between farmers, led tours and programs, and was the face of Apple Seeds for so many people in our community through all of her tabling and outreach. Josie has amazing plans for the fall and we're excited for her next steps.

Drop a note to send Josie off to her next adventure!

You may know Bryauna, who was our part-time farm assistant, and is now our full-time Volunteer and Farm Coordinator! She and Josie worked together for a seamless transition, so volunteering and bag packing will continue to run without a hitch.

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS!

We need volunteers next Monday and Thursday, 8 to noon. We have several staff members on a well-deserved vacation and students aren't back at school yet. But the vegetables keep growing and people keep eating, so we need some help to keep the system moving! Of course, we always love and need volunteers, but if you were thinking "maybe I'd like to do that one day," let this be the sign that one day could be next week (8/12 or 8/15).

Seen in this picture, our lovely volunteers from Afterschool Program who came today to help! Thanks, SOAR!

🌎♻🏡 City of Fayetteville Arkansas Government recently let Apple Seeds know: "For this year's second quarter your green team has diverted over 1,400 pounds of food waste! By ensuring this food waste was alchemized to become part of the earth again (instead of becoming trapped in a landfill), your team also reduced over 3 tons of greenhouse gases from being created in a landfill setting. This is amazing work and we appreciate your team from the bottom of our hearts!"

Thanks to all of our volunteers and staff who help us compost! Our Earth appreciates it.🏡♻🌎

TICKETS ON SALE NOW! Evening at the Farm -- Community Night-- on October 12.

11 years ago, Apple Seeds began a fall dinner featuring farm produce under twinkling lights in a field. Chef Case Dighero and Chef Jerrmy Gawthrop created culinary delights, while Bryan Hembree curated the perfect musical ambiance.

This year we're doing it all over again.

This year's event celebrates 11 years of Evening at the Farm with 11 tastes, featuring two main dishes by Case Dighero (Edible Culture) and Rafael Rios (Yeyo's). There will be starting courses by Dirty Apron BakeHouse, Fran Free, and Wright's Barbecue, and all followed by a delectable dessert. This year will also feature a custom brew collaboration by Ozark Beer Company and Fossil Cove Brewing Co., a cocktail collaboration by Fox Trail Distillery and Pink House Alchemy, and Spanish Coffee by Arsaga's. Each taste will showcase unique flavors and the talents of these culinary geniuses, as well as local produce, most of which comes straight from the Apple Seeds Teaching Farm.

But it's not just about food! Guests will be invited to give input on music, as Bryan Hembree will return to curate a musical atmosphere that complements the twinkly lights and crispness of autumn air.

"Evening at the Farm" is a celebration of community and togetherness. Gather with friends, family, and fellow food enthusiasts to create memories that will last another eleven years. By attending this event, you'll support our mission to empower and nourish our community. Proceeds from the event support Apple Seeds' year-round programming. This event takes place rain or shine.

A big thank you to our sponsors of the Evening at the Farm weekend, Talenti Gelato, Triscuit, Adventure Subaru, Fossil Cove Brewing Co., Haleon, Josh Cellars, Northwest Arkansas Psychiatry, a MANA Clinic, Ozark Beer Company, P&GBeauty, Signature Bank of Arkansas, Perry Roofing - Northwest Arkansas, Market Performance Group, 3W Magazine, Celebrate Arkansas, and Nwamedia.

Here is the happy news we have all been waiting for.

PATCH IS BACK! 🙌🙌🙌🙌

She's skinny, but alive and well! Someone found her near the Cliffs apartments and posted online about a found cat. Friends of Apple Seeds saw the post and reunited her to the farm this afternoon.

Thanks to everyone who kept their eye out for her! ❤️🐱😻

Thank you, teens!

Our July cohort of the Teen Service-Learning wraps up today. These 3 teens completed 40 service hours, all while gaining knowledge about food insecurity and farming in Arkansas. Josie and Bryauna, who led the program, also deserve a major shout-out (or sprout out! as the camp kids say!).

We can't wait to meet teens again next year! If you need service hours to graduate, keep Apple Seeds in mind. Thank you to everyone who made this investment in our community!
