We are thrilled to introduce Tova Bohrer, our new Program Manager at Apple Seeds!

Three years ago, Tova and her family moved to Arkansas, where Apple Seeds quickly became a favorite for her daughter, thanks to its highly recommended summer camp. Watching her daughter’s excitement and curiosity at Apple Seeds inspired Tova to pursue a Master’s in Nutrition Education. Tova loves roasted brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes—and recently discovered a newfound appreciation for beets, proving that taste buds evolve at any age! She also loves spending time outdoors with her husband, two kids, and their dog.

Tova’s passion for Nutrition Education and strong work ethic makes her a wonderful addition to our team – welcome, Tova!

Our garden is bursting with ripe, vibrant persimmons, and these SOAR Afterschool Program program students from Parson Hills and Jones Elementary had a blast harvesting them straight from the tree this week.

Persimmons are packed with nutrients – the perfect Fall treat! 🍂🍬

At Apple Seeds, we’ve seen the magic that happens when kids get hands-on with their food. Take Ella, for example—she planted, harvested, and prepared a radish during one of our farm programs. The result? She loved it!

In fact, 98% of kids in our programs choose to eat fresh vegetables when they’re involved in the process.

We believe engagement is the first step to improving health. Through planting, cooking, and tasting, kids build lifelong connections to healthy food. This Giving Season, your support helps transform lives, one radish at a time.

Follow along with our story or make your Giving Season donation here: https://appleseedsnwa.org/donate

Apple Seeds’ final event of the year is one you won’t want to miss. Wild Table: A Culinary Adventure in Venison brings together two industry professionals for storytelling and good food, spotlighting the possibilities in cooking with venison and our responsibility to conservation.

Rick Spicer of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers will start the evening with a discussion around the nuances of hunting, followed by a multi-course venison feast by Chef Travis McConnell, courtesy of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
Rick represents the Arkansas chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, working to protect access to public lands and promote sustainable food sourcing. He also co-owns Pack Rat Outdoor Center in Fayetteville, AR.

Chef Travis McConnell recently joined Brightwater as a butchery instructor, leading the launch of the new Artisan Butchery Program. This program is offered within the Brightwater Meat Institute and was designed by Chef McConnell to teach whole animal butchery, the craft of charcuterie, and the business practices essential to running an artisanal butchery operation. In collaboration with small family farms within the region, the program aims to support local producers and train the next generation of butchers and processors through hands-on learning. Taking a unique social entrepreneurship approach, students then learn and apply their skills within an educational setting.

Wild Table is a dinner series hosted by Apple Seeds to showcase wild foods and inspire conversations on conservation. Each event pairs a unique meal with insights from local experts.

We had a fantastic Kitchen Table Dinner with Chef Mitchell Griffith last weekend.🍂

It was a joy to reconnect with old friends and meet new faces in our cozy kitchen as we shared a delicious, fall-inspired meal. Mitchell and his talented team treated us to southern comforts made with local produce and the finest pork loin from Bansley's Berkshire Ridge Farm. We warmed our palettes with a seasonal bourbon cocktail created by Phillip at Wander Folk Spirits, as well as the last of the Elkasaurus Hef from Ozark Beer Company and Fossil Cove Brewing Co.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us—your presence made the night extra special! ❤️

❤️ Today marks the last day of farm field trips for the season, and we’re feeling ALL the emotions! ❤️

This semester, we've had the joy of welcoming 4,067 young learners from 1st-2nd grade onto the farm. Together, we’ve planted, harvested, tasted, and discovered the wonders of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Thank you to everyone who made this season so memorable. We can’t wait to welcome more students back when farm field trips resume in the Spring!
