"My dog eats socks all the time and always poops them out," has been heard in veterinary clinics all around the world. Some times even our largest of friends needs a little help passing small items. You never know what will get stuck.

If you see them ingest it, get them in quick to hopefully avoid an expensive surgery. Some times your veterinarian can inducing vomiting to get the object out of the stomach, and some times you need an endoscopic procedure to remove it, or even surgery. Watch out for vomiting as a symptom of a possible blockage.

Our friend here has no regrets and was not overly thrilled with seeing all his hard work removed.

Hook worms are an intestinal parasite that steals the nutrients from your pet's GI tract. If left unchecked they can cause anemia and even death.

Pictured here are some of the hookworm ova (eggs) found in a f***l exam under the microscope. The two microhematocrit tubes show a simple test that helps show if your pet is anemic - normal on the left and an anemic tube on the right. You can also see pale or white gums when your pet is anemic, usually gums are pink.

This is an emergency and some times can require a blood transfusion depending upon how anemic your pet is.

A monthly prevention from your primary care veterinarian is key in keeping these intestinal parasites in check.

Increased accessibility to the drug has also increased the risk of accidental pet exposure. Cannabis doesn’t necessarily have the same medicinal use in pets as it does for people since most medicinal ma*****na is often grown to have higher levels of THC, elevating the drug’s potency. In addition, because pets have more cannabinoid receptors in the brain, and due to their smaller size in relation to humans, ma*****na is highly toxic to pets.
