Have you heard of cytauxzoonosis? This is a tick-borne disease that affects cats and can lead to serious and often fatal health complications if left untreated.

Cats that spend time outdoors are at a higher risk of contracting cytauxzoonosis from tick bites. The lone star tick carries this deadly disease. Symptoms can include fever, anorexia, lethargy, dehydration, and jaundice.

If you suspect your cat may have been exposed to ticks or is displaying any of these symptoms, it's important to bring them in for a veterinary check-up as soon as possible. Early detection and treatment are crucial for the best possible outcome.

Prevention is key when it comes to protecting your furry friend from cytauxzoonosis. Keep your cat on a tick preventative medication recommended by your veterinarian, and regularly check them for any ticks after they spend time outside.

If you have any concerns about cytauxzoonosis or tick prevention for your cat, please don't hesitate to give us a call at 479-571-1228. Our team of experienced veterinary professionals are here to help keep your cats happy and healthy.

May is National Lyme Disease Awareness Month, and while it's commonly associated with dogs, it's also important to remember that cats can be at risk too. This month we will dive into the major tick diseases affecting our feline friends.

Lyme disease is a tick-borne illness that can lead to serious health complications if left untreated. While cats are not generally diagnosised, it is important to remember that they can still bring in infected ticks into your home. Lyme Disease is a zoonotic disease that can be transmitted to you by an infected tick.

It's Heartworm Awareness Month!❀

Did you know that cats can get heartworm disease too? Here are some important facts to keep in mind:

1. Heartworms are transmitted by mosquitoes and can be found in all 50 US states.
2. While dogs are the most common host for heartworms, cats can also become infected.
3. Symptoms of heartworm disease in cats can include coughing, vomiting, and difficulty breathing.
4. Heartworm disease is often harder to diagnose in cats than in dogs, making prevention even more important.
5. Monthly heartworm prevention medication is available for cats and is highly recommended by veterinarians.

Protect your feline friends and keep them healthy by scheduling regular check-ups and using preventative measures against heartworm disease. Call us to get your cats yearly appointment scheduled!
