September is Animal Pain Awareness Month. Our pets can suffer from pain just like people and it can present in different ways. Acute pain happens quickly and is usually more noticeable, causing visible distress. Chronic pain though can be more subtle and sometimes be mistaken as “getting old” or “slowing down”. There are a variety of treatment options depending on the cause and severity of pain to help manage your pet’s comfort levels. Here at Twin Lakes Veterinary Hospital, we offer state-of-the-art laser therapy called photobiomodulation (PBM), high quality supplements, and pain medications including a variety of short and long-acting options. Other options we commonly discuss include acupuncture, massage therapy, and physical rehabilitation.

Listed on the next slide are ways to detect signs of pain in your pet and tips to make changes in their daily lives. If you think your pet is experiencing pain, please make an appointment with us and we would be more than happy to discuss the best options for you and your furry friend!

Happy Fourth of July everybody! Please stay safe out there. Lots of pets get lost around this time of year and it’s also incredibly hot the next couple of days. Remember to keep your pet indoors, have their tags on, keep them nice and cool, and crank up that music/noise! Also, they don’t need to indulge in any BBQ foods 😉 We will be back open tomorrow morning at 8am.

Our faces when our patients come in appropriate carriers and/or leashes 😍 It doesn’t have to be as stylish as Tuna here, but we do require all of our patients to be safely confined before coming to the hospital. We work on a very busy road and don’t want anyone to get out!

Happy Spring! Here’s an update from us!
We have been in our remodeled building since mid-July and are happy to report that we are enjoying the more efficient, modern, reconfigured space. Although a few things remain "unfinished," the to-do list is dwindling. We hope many of you have had a chance to see the transformation for yourselves.

The staff is also busy preparing for our triennial AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) inspection in June. Only 15% of North American hospitals go through this rigorous process which sets us apart from most veterinary hospitals. In short, we hold ourselves to a higher standard that encompasses all aspects of veterinary medicine. The hospital will be evaluated on 900 standards of care including pain management, medical record-keeping, team training, and updated facilities. We have been a proud accredited practice since 1985.

Dr. Mike Mizumoto officially retired in January. His career at TLVH began in 1975 as a new graduate from WSU's School of Veterinary Medicine. He was hired by previous owner Dr. Everett Bottemiller and took over ownership in 1980 with a staff of five. We are proud of the legacy he established and very happy that his son Dr. Robert Mizumoto assumed ownership. Dr. Rob, born and raised in Federal Way, began his TLVH journey as a 15-year-old kennel assistant. Dr. Mike plans to golf as much as possible and travel to some new places with his wife, Margaret. You will continue to see him here when help is needed and for his valuable mentorship. We wish both Dr. Mike and Dr. Rob the best!
