Today marks 12 years since the untimely death of Jessica E. Pankiewicz, my best friend, the most loving and supportive wife, and the most committed and loving mother to our two boys Hunter and Ryder. They say time heals all wounds, but it really doesn't, not when you lose someone so important, the hurt of loss is always there, holidays, life events that they were robbed of, simply looking up at the full moon or something else that she loved can bring back the sting.
The pain never goes away but you begin to learn how to cope and live with it. Through people you love, the memories they leave behind, upholding traditions special to them, and doing things in their love with a cause.
For The Love Of Paws was created in her memory for her deep and undying love and compassion for all animals and this cause has helped bring light back into my life by spreading her love and compassion to so many others. This cause has spread this love compassion to the elderly who's pets are the only family they have left and has helped keep their bellies full when their owners were struggling to do so, its helped pay for needed surgery to save the lives of said pets, and it's helped bring peace to seniors who's pets where at end of life but could not afford to end their pain.
It's saved the life's of pets during times of crisis by allowing us to provide pet oxygen masks to every single fire dept in Indian River county, where families lost everything but we're able to save their beloved pets, it's allowed to supply Fur real cats to memory care patients in nearly every memory care facility in the county, and recently it's allowed us to provide therapy dog teams available to every facility from schools, civil service, hospitals and nursing homes in the county.
This day is always a day of mourning for me, but when i look back on the absolutely amazing things that we've done in memory of her love and compassion, it's a driving force that helps cope with her loss, and I want to personally thank everyone who's been part of our team, who's supported us, who's spread the word, for helping make Love of Paws what it is today and helping me find a way to cope.

Toby says, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! 🎄

Toby came to Love Of Paws two years ago as a permanent resident when his 92 year old mom had to go into hospice care.

Our pet sanctuary has become his family. Toby went from having a small back yard to having 5 acres where he’s had many wonderful herding experiences AND GETS TO SLEEP ON THE BED AND THE COUCH (original mom never let him) and many adventures hiking and exploring mountains and forests while, vacationing!

This year, Toby was diagnosed with glaucoma as well as a tumor in his left eye, which made him blind in that eye and was also very discomforting. The decision was made to remove his eye.

Toby is back to himself barking and happily herding his favorite person (Fawn).

For The Love Of Paws is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that was started by Ted Pankiewicz Sr, Ted Pankiewicz Jr and Cookie Pankiewicz in 2014, in memory of Ted Pankiewicz Jr’s late wife, who unexpectedly passed away from a rare immune disease called, Devic’s disease.

FTLOP (AKA Love Of Paws) runs several programs to aid Senior Citizens & Veterans with their pets. Among these are Paws Meals On Wheels, Paws Pet Sanctuary, and our newest program: Therapy Dogs.

Please visit our Thrift Store at 931 12th Street in Vero Beach, FL.

All proceeds go directly to providing supplemental pet food, veterinary care, the care and well being of the rescue/foster pets on our sanctuary and our other programs assisting Senior Citizens/Veterans and their pets.

Dog & Cat Food (and cat litter and treats) is always needed and can be donated to our Thrift Store in Vero Beach, FL or our Pet Food Pantry located at 12198 County Road 512 in Fellsmere, FL. We now have several drop-off locations!

Q: I am not a senior citizen or a veteran. Can you help me with food for my dog and cat?

A: Yes, please refer to our list of places that we provide Pet Food to. Each location does have their own set of eligibility requirements.

Q: My mom can’t take care of her cat can I drop it off?

Q: My father passed away six months ago and we have his cats. Will you take them?

Unfortunately we cannot take them all. 😞 Therefore, we have specific requirements we must follow.

For The Love Of Paws specifically provides peace of mind to Senior Citizens who can no longer care for their pet(s) due to being placed into Hospice, Memory Care, Assisted Living, Nursing Home, or undergoing a medical issue and temporarily cannot care for their pet(s) due to extended rehabilitation.

We currently ONLY accept pets from Senior Citizens residing in Indian River County, Florida.

We do NOT accept pets from caretakers or third parties.

For this reason we require you to apply to our Legacy Program before anything happens to you making you unable to care for your pet(s).
