Con't education- why houseowners need to know more- Thank you Tomas G. Teskey and Equine CranioSacral Workshops- for the shred video:
🎥 Why This Video Matters:
Seeing the navicular bone in motion changes everything. It helps explain why x-rays showing “holes” or irregularities in the hoof might indicate a problem—or might not. It also sheds light on what your vet might mean when they say the elusive phrase, “It’s navicular.” That diagnosis can point to a wide range of issues—not necessarily damage to the bone itself, but dysfunction in how the bone interacts with surrounding tissues, fascia, and movement patterns. Think of it like hearing “tight stifle”—a phrase that often signals a broader biomechanical concern.
The Real Function—Not Just the Theory:
Most horse owners don’t attend dissections, but understanding what’s common—and what’s possible—is essential. The navicular bone isn’t just a passive structure. It’s a dynamic part of the hoof’s shock-absorbing system, working in concert with the deep digital flexor tendon and the surrounding fascia to support fluid, resilient movement.
Industry Description (for reference):
Nestled deep within the horse’s hoof, the navicular bone is a small, boat-shaped structure located behind the coffin bone and beneath the short pastern. It acts like a pulley for the deep digital flexor tendon, helping the horse absorb shock and move with grace.- Kristin Praly HS 2025

🦷 Understanding Equine Teeth: Why Precision Matters
This diagram, sourced from Equus Magazine, a leading magazine for horse owners, reflects the conventional understanding of equine dentition. While educators often use metaphors like the "mechanical pencil" to explain tooth eruption—suggesting that teeth continually push outward like pencil lead—this analogy misses a critical point: equine teeth are finite.
Yes, horse teeth do erupt throughout life, but unlike a mechanical pencil, you cannot refill the lead. Once tooth material is gone, it’s gone for good. This distinction is vital for anyone involved in equine care, especially horse owners and veterinary professionals.
Devastating dentistry: Overfloating—removing more tooth than necessary—can drastically shorten a horse’s functional dental lifespan. Even a millimeter of excess reduction can compromise mastication, jaw movement, and long-term health. Many horses fail to reach 20 years with viable teeth, not due to age or genetics, but because of avoidable human error.- Kristin Praly

HUGE POSITIVE CHANGES: With dedicated care from her owner, ECS sessions with Kristin Praly, a targeted nutritional program, and consistent farrier support from Bret Lancaster, Venus has undergone a remarkable functional recovery. Initially presenting with dropped ribs, a collapsed thoracolumbar junction, and compensatory overuse of the cervical spine as a fifth limb, she was deemed unrideable due to compromised postural integrity and joint overload.
Today, Venus exhibits improved axial stability, more normalized rib mobility, and enhanced neuromuscular coordination. Her sacrum has more balance, her knees are no longer bearing disproportionate load.
Notably, the respiratory diaphragm has regained more functional tone and mobility, contributing to improved core stability, thoracic lift, and autonomic regulation.
These changes reflect not only musculoskeletal adaptation but also a shift in autonomic tone, suggesting improved parasympathetic regulation and reduced nociceptive guarding. This shift enabled more fluid movement, improved coordination, and behavioral relaxation—hallmarks of reduced nociceptive burden and increased somatic safety.
Her progress underscores the value of fascia-informed rehabilitation, trauma-aware handling, and interdisciplinary support in equine recovery. Venus is now a case study in how integrative care can restore both biomechanical function and behavioral resilience.- Kristin Praly Horse Sense Education and Advocacy Always gratitude to the teachings of Equine CranioSacral Workshops

Lots of smiles and learning today! 💛
Please take a moment to look closely at the final photo—featuring the beautiful mare, MyDun. For those who truly want to understand how horses mask their vulnerability, this image speaks volumes. It captures MyDun’s posture after she surrendered into treatment—softened, grounded, and finally able to let go.
Horses give their lives to us, often because we ask it of them. But to witness a horse collapse into love and kindness, rather than labor or expectation, is something rare and deeply moving.
MyDun is for sale, and our nonprofit would love to adopt her. She cannot hold herself up well, let alone carry a rider—but she deserves safety, dignity, and care. To sustain her long-term, we’re seeking 72 monthly sponsors at $10 each. Your support would help us provide ongoing treatment, feed, and sanctuary.
To meet MyDun in person, please contact us at [email protected] and our scheduler will be happy to arrange a visit.
If you’d like to become a monthly donor, here are your options:
- 🟡 PayPal (Preferred cc cards available) – Use the first PayPal button labeled “Thank You!” for a fee-free donation if you already have a PayPal account.
- 🔵 Credit Card available via PayPal – Use the second PayPal button if you don’t have PayPal but wish to donate via credit card. Please add $3 to your monthly gift to offset processing fees.
- 🟣 Venmo – Also available! Please add $3 to your donation to help cover Venmo’s transaction fees.
Every contribution helps us offer MyDun the life she deserves. Thank you for being part of her healing journey.
