After an abundance of thought and consideration, we have decided to suspend the

operation of 7 Trees Dairy Goats LLC as of December 31, 2023

Many of you know that Marva was raised on a dairy farm, and some of that original land is where the goat farm is currently located. She always knew she would like to get back into farming someday, but not with dairy cows. While looking through Country Folks Magazine, a herd of goats and equipment was for sale. So back in 2008 Marva and I drove to Livingston Manor NY to look at a herd of 15 milking goats, and a large Buck named Monster. She was interested in purchasing the dairy and cheese making equipment without the goats since we both had full time jobs and no barn available for animals. The deal was all or nothing, so in June of 2008, we were the proud owners of a herd of goats, an entire dairies worth of equipment, materials and some supplies. Families basements, garages, storage sheds, garage ceiling rafters, and any other place we could find became storage areas, and Dr Bob Toole let us use two end stalls at his barn on Nelson Road , across from the current Troyers Country store, to house the goats.

We contracted with Finger Lakes Construction to build the facility we have now to to Marva’s specifications, and the internal rooms were built by family. By November 2008 the goats were moved to their new barn, and more work continued on fencing and the internal rooms. Full time jobs were worked while building up our own herd of goats and making a determination if the business would be a viable venture, and a fulltime commitment was required of one of us. Fast forward, goat kids were born, goats needed to be milked and there was no use for all of the milk that was produced. Someone had to leave their job and start a dairy, or ?????.

With much encouragement for NYS Division of Agriculture and Markets employees Becca Durant and Bob Harrington, Marva was encouraged to proceed. She left Metro Mattress and worked to perfect cheese recepies and to get the proper equipment to get certified by NY State Ag and Markets as a certified goat dairy and milk processor. We were licensed in 2014, went on our last vacation, a cruise thru the islands of Maine, and started selling at the Cazenovia Farmers Market in the fall of 2014. We had a tremendous amount of support from family members and friends to get to this point. Without all of them it would have never been possible. There are so many we should recognize for their contributions that we would need an entire separate letter to address them all. **

We did Farmers Markets over the years in Chittenango, Oneida, Rome, Hamilton, Clinton, Fayetteville and Cazenovia. Events a Great Swamp Conservancy Spring and Fall Migrations. Pop up markets at Adams Acres Organic Apple Farm, Nature Thyme in Syracuse, Cobblestone Valley U-Pick strawberry farm, Nelson Farms, Taste of Madison County at Lorenzo and the Taste of Cazenovia at Willow Bank Yacht Club and Cazenovia Country Club. We participated in CCE Madison County Open Farm Day and eventually did 4 markets a week and sold from our farm and Henrys Farm Stand in Chittenango.

I retired from my “real job”, and did three markets a week while Marva covered the fourth. Last year we reduced to two markets a week and lessened the herd. Even though we are a seasonal producer from May thru October, farming with animals is a 365 day a year commitment. After 15 years of ownership and 9 year of markets and other events, its time for us to do something new. We have welcomed 1000’s of people to our farm, have met many vendors and customers over the years, and have made countless friends and acquaintances. We have so many loyal customers that have supported us, and have met new customers at every event and market. Some of you we know by name and have follower your stories and families over the years.

The end will be bitter sweet. We want to spend time at the family camp on Lake Champlain, visit friends that have moved away, and maybe go on another cruise.
We will miss all the people we have met and interacted with along the way.

THANK YOU ALL for enriching our lives as we hope we made yours a little bit brighter!

Susan & Marva

Despite the horrible weather for the first time in 9 years that we have participated in Open Farm Day, we were able to regroup from the first torrential downpour and set up again inside the goat barn. Our heartfelt thanks to all the people who are so loyal and supportive of our farm, that made the day a success. We had over 550 sign in and some number who registered via the QR code still come out and visit despite the weather. From our first visitors at 9:15 to that last around 4:00 we made it! Without our family of helpers we would not have been successful. Thanks to Shelby, Susie, Debi, Shad and Missy, Audrey, Andrew and our two tiny mascots Olivia and Adilyn, Marlene, Anna and the heart and soul of the farm, Marva. Without her, the farm wouldn’t even exist. It is her passion and love of farming the land and the animals she has raised, and the patience and skill to make cheese that is 7 Trees Dairy Goats. Anyone who wanted to visit, but the weather deterred them, our farm is open from dawn to dusk daily to make purchases or visit with the 4 little goat kids. They too and the entire herd stayed out in the weather until we gave them back their barn at 5:30.

This is posted under Marvas feed since I don’t have a page, but thank you again to everyone!

Happy Spring?🤔☹️🤞

Market season starts tomorrow, but unfortunately we will NOT be at the Fayetteville Farmers market. While the farm store is now open, this weather has been hard to get milk production and cheese making going full steam. Hopefully the finally drying weather will allow us to ramp up for markets next week and beyond. Visit the market for the vendors that are able to atttend and we will see you next week at Fayetteville and Cazenovia. Final Cazenovia College graduation and Mother’s Day are both next weekend, bitter sweet and joyful all at once. See you all in the coming days!

Happy Wednesday!

Our good friends from Salt City Bread have opened their retail space today in Manlius! If you haven’t tried there bread at either the Fayetteville Farmers Summer Market, or 20|East, or Henry’s Farm Stand or In Good Company Restaurant or any other outlets that have carried their products, you don’t know what you are missing! For those who have, there is now a place where you can get their fresh made, small batch, breads, rolls, English muffins, bagels, sweet treats and whatever else they create. The space has been re-imagined and re-purposed from the former Spera’s Market and is a gem. They had been opened for an hour when I stopped by today, and they plan to be open Wednesday-Sunday 10:00-4:00. As good as there baked goods are, go early so you don’t miss out!

Well, almost down to the last day before Open Farm Day. Marva is finishing up the goat cheese, grounds are mowed and trimmed. The crew has been assembled to be your hosts and guides, and supplies for the big day are being gathered at the farm. Tomorrow we hope to get the tents and tables set up, the shirts from Top Stitch (🤞), and the soap and lotion loaded in the car to deliver on Saturday morning. As it was done the last time we did Open Farm Day in 2019, Marvas sister Myrna composed the poem for this years event, Over the River:

Over the river and through the woods you’ll find 7 Trees Goat farm on display
The goats know the way to merry this special day
Eyes so bright, coats made of white, they frolic and play
While we open the doors to give you a taste of the gay.

Over the river and through the woods
The sun shines bright and fine
To grow the grass tall
On which the goats will dine
And not stall in eating it all.

Over the river and through the woods
Straight to the barnyard gate
Make hast for the crowd will not be late
Where our friends can be found
And greetings abound
As we welcome both the small and the tall

Over the river and through the woods
Folks hurry to have the first taste
Of goat cheese so great
With no crumbs to waste
Come soon please and don’t hesitate

Back over the river and through the woods
No longer you’ll find the goods
The barn door is shut and the fun is all done
No longer can we run in the sun

We’ll close out this farm day
With hopes you had a fine stay
That brings you back through the gate
Another fine day, it’s a date!

Thanks to everyone that has made this day possible, you all know who you are! Let’s make this the best ever farm day yet!!!

With our Madison County Open Farm Day coming up this Saturday, July 30, we will NOT be at the Fayetteville or Cazenovia Farmers Markets this week! Please come see us at the farm between 10:00 and 4:00 this Saturday. We apologize for any inconvenience, but this is a really big event for us for all of you to see our farm!

Well, we are two weeks away from Open Farm Day in Madison County on July 30th. Things are starting to come together for the big day! New shirts are ordered, for those that need one, little girls shirts for Olivia and Adilyn are also in the works. Supplies and tents are being requested, and although the soap and lotion gals, Dawn, Michelle, and Sharon won’t be there, we are getting everything they can make before hand ready for the day. Passports are at the farm and our market stands, and the gift bags have been delivered! Put it on your calendar and save the date! Can’t wait to welcome you all to our farm.

Come get all your starter plants, vegetables, fruits, baked goods, artisan breads, pastries, honey, maple syrup, perennials, meat, eggs, cheese, salsa, tamales, coffee, handmade cutting boards, woodworking, sewing, jewelry, art, and more! We have a quiet, peaceful setting just one block north of Route 20 in Cazenovia, look for our signs. Support your local farmers and artisans. The Cazenovia Garden Club is holding their plant sale this Saturday as well!

05/25/2022

Well, we are three weeks into the current market season, and the weather on market days has been challenging to say the least! We have had 90 ° days and then cold and rainy doesn’t even reach 60° days. We appreciate everyone that has come out to support our local vendors. The update on the much anticipated aged Manchego Goat Cheese is still at least another two weeks before we will have it at markets and the farm store. We are doing only two markets this year, but the farm store is open from dawn to dusk daily with all the cheeses and products we take to markets. Stop by, get your cheese and say hi to the goat kids. We will be doing Open Farm Day again this year after a two year hiatus, so put that on the calendar for the last Saturday in July. Hope to see you soon either at the market or the farm

We are officially open for the season!! Come visit the little ones and pick up some goat cheese. We have feta , cheese curds and soft goat cheese available. Hope to see you all soon..

Well a very active kidding season is over! Marva, the trooper had 38 kids within a thirteen day period. Sixteen does had 8 sets of triplets, 6 sets of twins and 2 singles. Unprecedented number of triplets!!! A few ended up coming home and stayed in the house overnight. Now that’s over, we begin on cheese making and getting ready for Farmers Markets. The weather is challenging to say the least for getting this done, cold nights aren’t helping at all.
Our first event is this Sunday, May 1, The Great Swamp Conservancy Spring Migration in Canastota from 10-2. There will be goat kids to visit with, goat soap and lotion, and as much goat cheese as possible.
The weekly markets begin the following week with Fayetteville Market at Town Center from 12-6 Thursday May 5th, and the Cazenovia Farmers Market in front of the high school from 9-2 on Saturday May 7th.
We will only be attending these two weekly markets this year.
As soon as our farm store cooler is filled, that will be open daily from dawn to dusk, look for the “open” sign to appear. We will be participating in Madison Counties Open Farm Day again this year, after a pause the last two years due to the pandemic.
As with most small business’s, we are facing increased costs for feed, supplies and ingredients, and will reluctantly have to raise prices this year. We are proud to say this is only the 2nd time we have raised prices in the past 7 years across all cheese lines.
As always feel free to message us via Facebook or email at [email protected] for any questions, comments, etc. we look forward to seeing you at the farm or the markets!

Have some family issues that need my attention over the next week, so I will not be at the Clinton Farmers Market tomorrow 9/2. I hope to be back next week, but will keep in touch if anything changes.

08/31/2021

Sorry Folks, but a last minute issue is going to keep me from attending the final Cottage Lawn Farmers Market tonight.
Thank you to everyone who came out and supported us this year! We seem to have gotten more than our fair share of rainy Tuesdays this season!!!
We still will have product available at the farm and our other Three markets have many weeks to go.
Sorry for such late notice!

With the weather situation very unstable tomorrow, we will not be at the Clinton Farmers Market. We will be in Fayetteville until the weather takes a turn for the worse. Looks like Fayetteville might miss the worst of Fred as it passes through Central New York! So hope to see you there!

08/17/2021

We are at the Oneida Farmers Market at Cottage Lawn today. Very small turn out due to weather concerns and we will probably be gone by 6:30 when the rain is supposed to start again. If you need your goat cheese fix, get her soon before the rain!!

Happy Monday everybody, and happy May! Maybe the weather will finally turn and be spring every day this week 🤔???
We have officially opened the farm store with limited quantities of cheese available. We are only 1/2 way through our kidding, several issues last fall, but won’t go into detail here. First Farmers Markets are this week, but we will only be able to attend one of the two due to short supply. This week we will NOT be in Fayetteville Thursday, but we WILL be in Cazenovia on Saturday. Hopefully next week we will be able to attend both markets, but we will have to see how this week goes before we can commit. I know it’s been a long wait, but please be patient with us as we try to ramp back up to full production.
The farm is open to visit with the goat kids we have, masks required, so feel free to visit with YOUR kids.
